Windows 10: Lost file access while they still exist

So it had bothered me for a while that the name of the user in the c drive was not what i wanted. I followed along a video on how to change it. So apparently as i was on a temp user account doing the cd c:\users ren procedure, it showed access denied. I ignored it and kept along the video, went to regedit and changed the value ProfileImage with a name i wanted, before realizing that it was the biggest mistake. I switched back to my desired user and everything is gone, with a little window telling me to sign out or my files will be gone, which i did. Headed over to c drive accounts folder, i sa

Lost ability to access Win10 from WinXP machine

Hi,

This is a lab I constructed since following this thread.

Setup:

Virtual Box
Windows 10 fresh install, latest ISO fully patched.
Windows XP Latest Version As patched as it need.

Setup:
Both Virtual machines virtual adapters Bridged to my Local Network
Both NetBios forced Enabled
Both in the same Workgroup
Both firewalls located in Private network

Enabled SMB1 on W10 Host

Created user named "monkey" with the password "banana" on both machines
Created a Share named !TEMP! on both machines, created a cookie File in each folder.
Give full control access to everyone and "monkey" on both shares.

From there I was unable to access the shared folder Without authentication period.
Automatic authentication did not work and using "Everyone full access" did not change anything.
I had to specifically log on the machine to gain any access.

From the problematic machine.

Try to view if your Machine appears on the Network List:

The available shares will be listed there.
If it does not work you can use:

To verify if authentication is working properly, if it succeed, you can carry on... But nothing will be permanently saved.

Then Try to List the content of one of the directories:

If all this works Try to map a drive on the share:

In my setup both windows are at the default initial configuration, no tweaks, and wont accept any of these commands without prior authentication.

 

Lost Folders - but files exist

Win10x64Home build 14393.447 - upgraded a year ago from Win7

Something yesterday transposed 'Downloads' into 'Documents' in the Quick Access list of File Explorer and in the Library list shows the downloaded files in the so-called 'Documents' folder.

I cannot find my trusty Documents folder at all, nor use any files.

But, Word, or Excel, or some other applications when doing a 'Save-As' go to the folder list which belongs in the old 'Documents' folder and proceeds to save properly (Word can also re-open the new file as a Recent file) but File Explorer cannot find 'Documents' at all.

Trying the Registry Key trick did nothing.

Any help appreciated.
