Windows 10: Lost files on Desktop

Wednesday night I was out. A thunderstorm came through the area and knocked the power out. I had left my computer on and naturally it shut down. The next morning I restarted my computer and noticed that my background screen image had changed from the picture I used to the Windows blue screen you see normally when you first load Windows 10. All the programs were still there, but I was missing all of the files that I had saved onto the desktop not yet to my C drive.

My son was able to find a folder marked Desktop that had all of those files in it. I asked him to put that folder on this new desktop. Shortly thereafter one of the programs that I was using developed a problem, and advised me to restart my computer. When I restarted my computer I noticed that my original background screen image had returned, but not the files that I thought I had saved when I had my son put on the new Desktop.

In hindsight I should probably have restarted my computer as soon as I saw the new blue screen. Or not moved the folder marked desktop onto the new blue screen. Dumb move after dumb move you might say. And should have had those files backed up on my C drive.

Have tried many things to recover that Desktop folder with no luck. Any suggestions? They were very important files.

Step 1 - I upgraded to Win 10 and lost all my files on Desktop.

Step 2 - Found the files in Network - USers- Desktop

copied all files again to desktop.

Step 3- Restarted my machine again and lost desktop files again.

Step 4 - As suggested did the following as listed below but dont find my files.

• Press “Windows + E”, open This PC/Computer
• Open Local Disc C, open Windows.old
• Click on Users, select your User name
• Go to desktop folder

Cant find my files. Why is Win 10 deleted files again and again from Desktop ?.
