Windows 10: Lost my profile after recent update - 22/12/2020

Hi


I went to login into my laptop following a windows security update only to find I couldn't due to the user profile being deleted. After several attempts I eventually got back in but everything was back default settings, all my folders from desk top had been erased. All applications associated to my user profile were inactive such as skype and had to reinstalled. The password and key to login were accepted so something was still intact.


This is the kind continuous problem people experience with windows and why people are moving to Apple, chrome books and google. This is a dreadful, there is no way to recover this, a horrid experience.


In these very strange times of Covid we all rely on our system remaining stable to allow for homes to keep in touch over Skype, to work from home etc.


Can I suggest Microsoft stop sending updates until we the world are in a better situation. Especially if there is a chance of breaking customers ability to use their tools.


My laptop is new with a solid state hard drive so I think I can rule out a H/W fault.

I have virus protection enabled so I can rule this out.


My question is .. is there s simple way to recover this, I have looked on line and it all seems to be lengthy process, this is NOT acceptable when I rely on my laptop communication to the outside world during Covid or do I have to now move to Apple, Google or Linux much stable platforms.

Lost default photo viewer after profile rebuild

Thanks Brink. I've tried those steps before i started searching Google. After the profile rebuild i don't have the Photo app listed to choose to make it default in either the system settings for default apps or the Open With option.

I can't even find it doing a search. Seems to have been removed somehow with the profile rebuild, which doesn't make sense.

Might be helpful to list what i've done I've done the open with check, the choose default program in the system menu, tried that in device manager default programs also. I've checked the programs and features Turn windows features on/off and it's not listed there (never thought it was but that was a suggestion), searched the MS Store, it's not listed there either.

I don't like playing in the registry unless i have defined steps and haven't found anything for this yet, just the Win7 version like in my OP.

 

Completely lost Facebook account on April 22, 2020

Upgraded to windows 10 approx. a week ago and lost my Facebook account on April 22, 2020.. Every time I tried to sign into the facebook account I

got a message , " this account does not exist ".. Tried the Reset process and I was not successful.. When I created a new account , that's exactly what it was,, " A new account ".. What do I do OR what can I do...
