Windows 10: Lost settings and documents

While restarting my Windows10 machine today morning I was asked to do an 'Update and Restart', post the restart I found it that I have lost all the software settings and lots of documents from my machine. How to reach to the same stage before I did 'Update and Restart'? I have tried System restore but still those settings and documents aren't available.

Lost documents after Windows update.

Here are two suggestions:

• Have a look in the folder C:\Windows.old\Users\MjKoval\Documents.

Implement a robust backup scheme. If you have very important documents then they must be stored on two independent media.
Do not wait until they are lost.

 

Lost facility on Documents screen

Change the settings in folder options to show the quick access menu. I assume this is what you mean?
Post back if not

• Open the File Explorer.
• Tap on View and click on Options.
• Change the option Open File Explorer to: from "This PC" to "Quick Access"

 

Downloads folder is the Documents folder

I suggest you to Restore to Default the folders and document settings and see if it helps.

Step 1:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Download folder.
• Right click on the Download Folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

Step 2:

Please follow below steps and check if it helps.

• Go to Documents folder.
• Right click on the Document folder and go to Properties.
• In Properties go to Location tab.
• In location Tab Click on Restore Default.

After performing above steps change the settings as you required and check if it helps.
