Windows 10: lost sound in ASUS ROG laptop

This computer has games that I never use, so I was going to uninstall something relevant in apps & features. I got some warning I think that something else needed to be done, so I cancelled. After my next reboot, I noticed videos were playing with no audio. There is no audio. I expected to be able to use system restore as in Win7, but now find that it is by default disabled, so apparently too late. what to do now?

Asus ROG g701vi sound problems

Hopefully this issue wasn't solved somewhere with another model and I missed it...

Hardware:

I have two brand new Asus ROG g701vi OC Edition laptops (the second one sent by Amazon after the the issue with the first).

Problem:

With system volume at 100, all Sonic Studio effects off and Supreme FX processing off and system volume set to 100%, the sound output is roughly half of the volume on my g751jy and surface book.

Past actions:

• all system updates (including the creators' update but did verify that the problem existed)
• Updates for all drivers (automatically, have not tried to manually install any different drivers, although I've read Windows 10 would likely overwrite them anyway)
• Tried two 3.5mm headsets (one noise cancelling and the other not) both of which work normally everywhere else
• Changed default format in speakers>properties>advanced to everything else
• Unchecked "allow applications to take exclusive control of this device" in advanced speaker properties
• Verified sounds are playing from the volume mixer

Thoughts:

• g701vi comes with built in ESS Sabre audio amplifier (don't care about this but could it be the problem somehow?)
• When trying to open Realtek audio manager directly it opensSupreme FX but maybe there's a hidden setting that is capping the output ?
• Sound seems to be even lower in games
• I was told to play something in VLC and increase the volume to OVER 100% to see what happened...the volume did not seem to change at all when adjusted above 100%
• I only had Bose headphones to test with, but they're analog so this can't be the problem. Right?

The questions is:

Can anyone help?! I can't believe that nobody that has this laptop has not experienced the same problem. My guess at this point is that ASUS is trying to cover up a manufacturing error or is scrambling to release updates drivers...

Asus ROG. Opinions?

I am planning on getting a gaming laptop and my #1 choice is the Asus ROG that is on sale on the online Microsoft store. I have heard split reviews about the Asus, some saying that it simply doesn't turn on to some saying it is fantastic. It obviously
has a lot of capabilities and looking at its specs, it has a very powerful system however is it reliable enough for me to purchase or will it just be a waste of time. If it isn't reliable, then what would be a good backup computer to purchase.

ASUS ROG Model G752VL has a slight echo sound

My sound, whether it is coming out of speakers or headphones on my brand new laptop has a slight echo, which turns out to be really annoying? I have tried updating my drivers, and restarting my PC, I have also disabled the microphone. Is there anything
else I can do?
