    Lost Windows CDs and Product Key


    I tried using the command prompt method and my motherboard does not have the product key in the BIOS so it doesn't work.

    I assume when I try to install windows on a new SSD with a usb install it will ask me for the product key right? Is there any other way aside from the cmd prompt method that doesn't rely on the cd key being stored in motherboard BIOS I can use to retrieve my windows key or is buying a new copy my only option?

    I bought my Laptop in July 2015 with the Home and Student Microsoft Word. When I refreshed my computer I lost the Product key and I could not find the CD that contain the product key. What shall I do please suggest and help.

    I confirmed this, although it listed a different product key than the one given for my copy of XP. 0.o
