Lot of folders in Temp folder

    Hello,
Making some search, found lot of folders here: "C:\users\me\appdat\local\temp..", they use about
7.3 GB. Most of them contain almost same files inside. Attached here screenshot part of the main list of folders, and one of the inside files.
How about deleting them to save some disk space ?
    Thanks for answers.

    :)

  2. Windows 10 location for history and temp

I found the Temp folder per your help, but nothing seems to be there except some old stuff. I played a video on the internet about desert plants. It did not show up in the Temp Folder. As for History, not sure I found it. I last worked with XP where
everything seemed a lot clearer. When I wanted to save a folder or video I knew it was saved to the Temp Folder using IExplorer. It would be in a different folder if I used Firefox which had a Temp Folder that was terrible for this purpose, so I didn't use
it. As I recall the History Folder would allow me to do the same thing. Eg, I might use AWAD (a Word a Day) with a picture that described the word of the day and download it. Again, it would be in Temp or History.

Perhaps, there is some sort of setting in Windows 10 that blocks all downloads from the Internet to the Temp File. Appreciate your help.

  3. repair temp folder

It sort of depends. See "the temp folder" may refer to many different places. Lots of different programs use different places for temporary file storage needs. Do you know which temp folder it is referring to, or which program is throwing up this message?

Lot of folders in Temp folder

Good idea. The safest way to do that is to run Disk Clean-up. Make sure there's a tick in the 'Temporary files' box and click OK.

While you're in Disk Clean-up, have a look at other things that may be taking up space (recycle bin, temporary internet files, etc.). If you click its 'Clean up system files' button it will do a deeper check and fine even more things that could be cleaned.

    Hello Bree,
    Thanks for the answer.
I ran 'disk cleanup tool', just to see what are the findings - not made a cleaning yet, all it found were several MB's, that amout of files & folders up to 7 GB which I sent above were not in the tool's list.
What may happen if I delete some manually ?
    Thanks for answers.

Did you scroll down the list to see the 'Temporary files' item? This is where it should appear in the list. If you tick the box and click OK Disk Clean-up should delete any files or folders in temp that are over a week old.

It is usually safe to delete the files in C:\users\<your_name>\appdata\local\temp but with regular use of Disk Clean-up you shouldn't need to do it by hand.

    Hello again Bree,
Thanks for your answer, attached here the screenshot of the cleanup tool. I made some modification so you can see all the content of the tool, there are no 7 GB in the findings. As a matter of fact - that folder is not in the list. And I'm not mistaken, the 7.7 MB in the list are far away from 7 GB.
If I try to delete some manually, what shell I check if I made right or wrong ?
    Thanks,

Lot of folders in Temp folder

You can click the 'Clean up system files' button to see a more complete list of what could be cleaned up.

It is safe to delete everything in C:\users\<your_name>\appdata\local\temp - but only in this folder, don't try deleting anything in any other 'appdata' folder. If any file is in use you won't be allowed to delete it, anything you can delete should have no effect on your PC.

  9. I went through the same issue you are seeing on one of my Win10 computers in January for whatever reason I do not know. By the time I noticed what you see, I had about 1500 of them. Disk cleanup did only a few of them. Your 7.3 GB isn't unusual in such a situation. I manually deleted the remainders and as mentioned, it's ok to do so. Then I wanted to see what happened on a daily basis for a few days: the first day about 20 of them were back and 5 days later, they grew to about 1100. I deleted all of them again, I ran Disk cleanup each morning (only minimal effect happened) and then manually deleted the rest of what was left (about 20 per day). All of a sudden on Jan 22, the issue cleared up; that's the same day a Cumulative update came through. I don't know whether or not it was coincidence but if you find an actual fix, I'll be interested in knowing.

Disk Clean-up specifically says of the 'Temporary files' that "You can safely delete files that have not been modified in over a week", so I assume it applies that same time limit on which it will delete. Deleting them all myself has never caused any problems.

Some time ago I ran a program which was designed to clean a hard disk (eg., delete redundant files) I can't remember its name. I deleted all my stores sign-in data for many sites etc. and it took a long time to recover.

Does Disk Cleanup behave like this? If so, I will steer clear of it.

I use this one written by some old git (honestly it is what he calls himself). TFC Download

Mind you if you have 7GB of stuff in your temp you may as well just delete it all. Windows will not let you delete things in use (Skype and OneDrive normally).

I got a similar amount using 7-zip to zip up a 12GB game onto a FAT32 formatted USB drive. It failed (file was too big for FAT32) and left the temp file in %localappdata%. Repeatedly.

I use mine WC.bat. 7GB sounds really excessive. You can use those commands at own risk.

    del "%temp%\*" /s /f /q
    del "%systemroot%\temp\*" /s /f /q
