Windows 10: Lots of problems with Windows 10 and WHS server - solved

Server did not connect any more, after a version of Windows 10 no longer loads Feature SMB 1 by default

Also Server cannot connect if running under MiscroSoft account and/or using a PIN for a password

This was an old problem for me, but came back after I had to change to MicroSoft account Login to get media

for my Win 10 as I had only a digital license , so needed an ISO to reinstall a clean Windows.


After Install, Put account back to a local user with the original name & password

Restart and check


Set Feature ON


Search in the start menu for 'Turn Windows features on or off' and open it.

Locate 'SMB1. in the list of optional features that appears, and select the checkbox next to it.

Click OK and Windows will add the selected feature.


Did a restart, but think now required


Turned WHS on , if not on already


Reinstalled WHS connector, this was a precaution, as I had just done a clean reinstall of WIN 10 for other reasons

Found the server, asked for the ID and PSWD , wake up or manual backup questions. Installed ok


Tested console OK

Server in Network Tree OK

Used DBPowerAmp to rip a CD to flac on the Server OK


Will now backup the PC using Windows Home Server console/


So I have my ripcaster tanquil server accessible again.

I would suggest purchasing a RAID controller card that will allow you to do your RAID 10 across your 6 drives. It would not necessarily solve your windows problem though.

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

Win 10 whs 2011 2753 cannot uninstall connector no launchpad


Thanks for your suggestion. I may have to go there but am avoiding it at present as, since I cannot uninstall the WHS connector on the client now, there is no guarantee I will be able to do so even if I remove it from the server or am I wrong?
