Windows 10: Low available physical memory

Hello!


I have am HP gaming laptop with 8GB of installed memory, after fixing some other issues I had with it I launch Cities Skylines and notice the game was only using up to 4.5Gb of RAM, so I checked on system information and out of the 7.86Gb of the total physical memory it only shows as available 4.35Gb. Checking resource monitor shows that nearly 50% of the memory is in use at any time.


I've read Windows 10 keeps RAM usage high but manages to allocate memory to processes that need it, but that's not happening, it's almost like half my memory is gone.


I am running 64bits Windows 10

Available Physical Memory low

Yes, this is normal if you are running a lot of background apps that may take ram usage from your computer.

Try to perform a windows run or simply do command Win+R, and type 'resmon'. You will see how much RAM is being used by allocation (eg Hardware reserved, In Use, etc)

You may also verify and check more info from what's going on by going down the processes (or use Task Manager with 'show all processes from all users' enabled). This way you can disable all other apps you don't need to make space for your available physical
memory.

You may also follow these steps.

1. Right-click the Windows button > Select Run

2. Type in "msconfig" without the quotes, then click OK.

3. On the General tab, select Selective Startup. Then untick "Load startup items".

4. On the Services tab, click "Hide all Microsoft services".

5. Click "Disable all".

6. On the Startup tab, click "Open Task Manager". A Task Manager window should open.

7. Disable all startup items. You can also choose which startup items to disable, as certain devices might now work properly if the startup item related to it is disabled.

8. Go back to your System Configuration window.

9. Click Apply > OK

10. Click "Restart" when prompted.

Check if that solves the problem in low available physical memory for your RAM usage.

High installed physical memory, very Low available physical memory

Got a new computer and my Installed Physical Memory (RAM) is 8.00GB whereas my Avaiable Physical Memory is 370MB.

I game on my PC and I am getting very low FPS with many lag spikes in all of the game I play, I'm assuming this is the problem, but if anyone notices anything in my specs that could be effecting my pc performance, id appreciate some help <3
