Windows 10: Low bluetooth audio quality low bitrate with true wireless earbuds - headset mode DISABLED

Hi,

I just got a new Asus Zenbook laptop. It comes with BT 5.0 and I hoped to be able to use my Samsung Galaxy Buds Plus wireless earbuds with it. However, the sound quality is way worse than when playing from my phone. I disabled the headset mode as recommended in most forums, but the sound is still bad. It sounds "crunchy" when the song gets more complicated with a lot of sounds. Again, the sound profile is set to headphones, not headset. I play the same youtube videos from my Pixel 3 smartphone and my laptop, the laptop sounds way worse. Is there anything I can do to increase the bitrate? My phone doesn't use any special codec, just SBC. I didn't find any control panel to change any of this Bluetooth stuff. I have the latest drivers from Intel's website AX200.

Low quality audio in headset when microphone is activated

Anytime anything activates the mic (Discord, Skype, Webex, the recording tab in the sound part of the control panel) the audio quality in my headset is very low quality.

To Reproduce:

1. Play music of choice
   
2. Press the windows key and type sound
   
3. Click the Recording tab. Music will change to low quality
   
4. Click the Playback tab your music should sound normal
   
5. Rip hair out in frustration
   

 

Lumia 820 Bluetooth audio quality

Keep in mind standard Bluetooth Audio is very low quality to begin with, it's low bitrate and you should consider BT was never intended to be used this way. There are better quality codecs and I believe at least the 820 and up support the apt-X codec for
playback if the receiving end does as well but it's still not the best way to listen to audio.

 

Bluetooth speaker displays as 2 different playback devices, only works in low quality audio.

My bluetooth speaker displays as 2 devices when connected via bluetooth, Headphones (Anker SoundCore Stereo) and Headset (Anker SoundCore Hands-Free AG Audio). Only the Headset option works and it plays the audio in very low quality. Selecting the Headphones
option plays no audio at all, even when volume and device volume is at max.

I have tried uninstalling the device but the issue persists. The speakers work fine on any other device.
