Windows 10: low brightness on desktop

Hi, I have a problem. Win 11 Pro, desktop NOT laptop, my brightness drops anytime I start the windows, anytime I go the -> system -> display. Only way to get it back is to reload the graphics driver ctrl+shift+win+B. Never happened before. PC is 4 years old, AMD graphics card. Everything is updated. Also when switching users, brightness drops again. Can't find any solution because every single one applies to laptops and not desktops. Thank you. P.S. The cursor brightness stays the same while everything else drops to 0.

Method 2: I suggest you to update the display drivers and check if the issue persists.

Steps to update the drivers for the Display Adapter.

• Press Windows key + X key when you are at desktop.
• Select Device Manager.
• Expand Display Adapter.
• Right on the Display Adapter and click on Update.

Brightness Control not working in Windows 10

Hi Ella,

To adjust the brightness, see the steps below:

• Go back to Power Options, and tick on the High performance.
• See if you can adjust the brightness.

If this not work, we highly suggest that you create an Administrator account, and re-do the steps above.

Brightness is stuck on low

Here are some steps that you may try to resolve your problem.

Option 1: To check for the brightness settings, please follow the steps given below and check if it helps.

1. Press the Windows key on the keyboard.

2. Type Edit Power Plan.

3. Click Change advanced power settings.

4. In the list, expand Display, and then expand Enable adaptive brightness.

5. To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is running on battery power, click On battery, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

6. To turn adaptive brightness on or off when your computer is plugged into an outlet, click Plugged in, and then, in the list, click On or Off.

7. Click Apply. Click OK.

Option 2: Update Display drivers in device manager

1. Press Windows key + X when you are at desktop.

2. Select Device Manager.

3. Expand Display adapters.

4. Right-click the display driver and click Update Driver Software.

5. Select Search Automatically for Updated Driver Software.

Option 3: Update Monitor Drivers in device Manager

1. Press Windows key + X

2. Open Device manager > Collapse Monitors > Look for Generic Non-PNP Monitor

3. Right-click on Generic Non-PNP Monitor > Select Enable Device if the device was not set to Enabled.

4. Right-click again on Generic Non-PNP Monitor > Update Driver > Click Search automatically for updated driver software

5. Click Close. Check if your brightness is now working.
