  1. Low performance in games - WIN10

    Hello,
as title suggest, I have constant stutters, microstutters and FPS drops in almost every game, even when I usually exceed recommended requirements, althoutht OS itself seems to run fine.
I had not any of these problems before the upgrade from Windows 8.1.

Problem details: Stutters and slowdowns occurs even when my Framerate per second is between 50-60, which should be high above smooth gameplay (so everything under 60FPS is notable slowed down) althought games runned smooth before on these FPS.
I think something in windows is interfering with Vertical synchronisation - this function should ensure smooth experience when FPS does not equal Hz on screen, but as I found out, performance is still the same if either Vsync is on or off.
Or problem may be somewhere else.
Please kindly check attachments for more informations.

    Best regards
...and sorry for my crude english*Smile

    :)

    LOW GAME PERFORMANCE

I have also had similar problems with a similar computer set up, I have tried so many things to fix it only to come to the conclusion that windows and AMD need to work better to figure out the issue.

I had the most problems when I upgraded from 8.1 to windows 10.

-I have gone to dell and tried all there recommended drivers to no avail.

-There intel drivers do not seem to be an issue it is defiantly an AMD and windows 10 issue.

-I have tried all the recommended methods i have used DDU to completely remove all driver remnants and reinstalled newest drivers to no avail.

-I did a fresh install from a formatted hard drive. this solved a few of my issues (power plans randomly changing, windows not shutting down)

-tried the newest AMD drivers on a fresh install to no avail. reverted back to windows drivers

The best working driver that i could find is the driver that windows 10 supplies using windows update. The newest AMD crimson is absolute junk for our switchable graphics set ups it seems. Not a single game I have can play on these drivers. Title screens
inside of games load for a second freeze then load again game is virtually unplayable as you get 5 seconds of play time until it freezes for a millisecond and you can play for another 5 seconds (this is the case if i use any driver newer than the windows 10
driver). The Driver from windows 10 is not the best either. most games (I only really play, Asphault8, MinecraftW10, and Minecraft PC) seem to work but minecraft windows 10 edition (imagine that windows 10 game cannot run on a windows 10 driver) will not play
on the AMD GPU everything is black except the sky or fire. If I switch to intel it works but not as well i have to lower my visual settings. I tried the AMD driver from dell and wala Minecraft W10 works fine on AMD but, now the other two games wont play haha.

I've came to believe we have to wait to see what windows and AMD come up with there are defiantly some software conflicts.

  4. Low performance in games - WIN10

Problem is you're running Windows 10 and you've installed the Anniversary Update (Windows 10 Home 64-bit (10.0, Build 14393) (14393.rs1_release_inmarket.160819-1924)), which introduced a lovely bug that randomly lags your system down to around 5% of it's normal speed. Causes games to run around 5-6fps (ANY game), and in case you haven't noticed will happen when you're just using your system normally. (Happens when I'm watching YouTube sometimes, the whole system just grinds to a near halt).

Solution? I have no freaking idea. Some people are speculating this problem occurs when you have User Files (%My Documents%, %My Pictures%, etc) on a secondary drive, or a drive different from your Windows Installation folder.

judging by your HDD stuff that may be what's happening here.

Microsoft supposedly released a fix on 8/31/2016 for this issue, but for me it didn't fix the problem. Some things that people are doing to fix the issue:

Rollback to previous version (this option goes away 10 days after the Anniversary Update is installed)
Move user files to your primary drive (in your case C:, or their default location), assuming you did move those files to a secondary drive.
Apply a bunch of other fixes that don't seem to help. (Here's a great post on Reddit detailing what people are attempting)
Reinstall Windows 10 (search for "Recovery" in your start menu), and reinstall the AU (Sometimes fixes it)

As far as I know this issue has NOTHING to do with vsync, but YMMV.

Additional Note: This isn't really a gaming issue, it's a Windows 10 issue. Good luck.

  5. Hello Android8675,
thanks for your answer. Here are some notes to your solutions:

-I dont know anything about anniversary edition, I just run windows update once in a while. But problem with unstable FPS originates from time when I upgraded from win8.1 to win10 several weeks ago. Maybe something screwed up at that time. But lately almost any game has became stutterfest*Rolleyes - worse than ever before.
-I already have my User files on C as well as windows.
-I reinstalled all my drivers from laptop manufacturer site as after every update (because windows make a mess from my drives after every update for some reason*Rolleyes)

What about that manufactuter configuration recovery? Will it install back my default OS - i.e. windows 8?

If you updated several weeks ago then you have Anniversary Update (AU) version of Windows 10. This stutterfest is a bug with this update.

If your system had Windows 8 on it before, the Mfg. Configuration Recovery would return you to Windows 8. I would do that. You can still upgrade to Windows 10 on the same laptop later if you want. I don't know if doing a clean install to Windows 10 would help, but I would do some google searching and find out. I pretty much gave up trying to fix my system. As soon as I can find the time I'm going to backup everything and reinstall from scratch. I'm hoping I can find the budget to upgrade my hardware as well, but we shall see.

    -A.

I have heard that AU updated the Windows Display Driver Model to v2.1 and that it seems the issue could be stemming from that fact alone. Latest two nVidia driver updates work like crap. AMD cards may have issues too. After reading Android8675 post, it seems this issue may be hard to pinpoint. I hope MS is aware of this and issue a patch soon. In the interim I am running my GTX 970 with older drivers and, so far, all games I have tested run fine.

winver will tell you what build you are using. Builds that start with 14**** are Anniversary Update builds and should be avoided (not necessarily) until everything's sorted out by Microsoft.

  9. Yeah, I've browsed 10-20 different websites looking for an answer, the Reddit thread I found held some promise, but it's died off a bit because there was an update on Aug 31st that allegedly fixed the issue, but my system is still randomly slowing to a stutter.

I was thinking it might be my video card, a memory issue of some sort that's causing the problem, but since MS doesn't have tech support there's really no way to know for sure. What video drivers are you running? I just updated today to the latest nVidia and am still having issues. Maybe I'll try their beta update, if there is one.

I am running 369.09 installed from Windows Update. All newer 37x.xx releases (downloaded from nVidia) perform terribly bad.

Also, another thing to take into account: these newer 37x.xx releases also include a newer VSYNC setting called "Fast Vsync" that resembles a real implementation of Triple Buffering technique for D3D. Maybe there could be some issues with it.

ALSO, regular VSYNC doesn't work anymore for D3D if it's at factory defaults at nVidia control panel "Managed by application". It only works when Forced ON from within nVidia CP. This is a known issue, already acknowledged by nVidia. Funny thing, they have already released two 37x.xx series driver and they haven't fixed it yet.

That's why I am steering clear of 37x.xx series for now.

PS. After browsing nVidia forum, I see a lot of people with newer Pascal cards are also having a lot of issues, namely, low gpu usage and underutilization no matter what. Some microstuttering too and some older titles not working properly or at all.

  11. It all boils down to the Graphics Drivers that NVIDIA released.

Low performance in games - WIN10

Are you using nVidia or AMD? and what driver version? It seems fair to admit that not everyone will be having the same issues. And I am pretty sure Windows' fault it's just a PARTIAL fault.

My W10 AU is also performing properly for games and everything else with older nVidia drivers installed.

  14. AMD Here, don't think older drivers would help unless i'm wrong, but for now just been logging off Firestorm and relogging in, and it fixes the low frame rate for a while, don't wanna remove Windows 10 Annivesary cumulative updates myself, AMD Radeon R7 240 with Radeon Crimson 16.9.1 drivers, and now running with Defender for Antivirus and Malwarebytes, despite I really like Avast, performance issues seemed to be too much with it, plus avast service was using 21.5mbs of ram constantly for some reason, eventually i'll go back to Avast once performance problems all solved I know though, been using Avast steady since 2006

Should I go back to Radeon Crimson 16.7.3 WHQL version?

  15. If you are having problem with your current driver version then you will want to go back to the older version. I'm also an avast! user but I'm trying the capabilities of Windows Defender. Defender should be turned off when you have avast! installed.
