Windows 10: Lower disk usage in task manager, too high. Update driver firmware? 100% disk; task...

Having too high disk usage too consistently results in slow computer performance eg: apps takes awhile to open, this is not normal, plz fix it. I have tried >5 methods to fix the issue. I do not remember all of the methods I have fulfilled but when you give a method, I will tell you if I remember applying it. I heard updating SSD or HDD firmware worked for people with the same issue. Could we maybe start with trying that updating driver firmware? I have a Toshiba HDD driver it's an Acer laptop though. 100% disk usage can have many causes.

What are the top 5 processes listed in the task manager using the disk?

 

100% disk usage

First of all, you should not run 2 virus programs. Windows Defender will protect you as good if not better than McAfee.

I would start by uninstalling McAfee and restarting PC.

When the disk is at 100%, what is your CPU% total at this time ???

If it is also high, select the details tab in task manager and find the item using the high CPU%.

SuperFetch could be the issue.

Is windows update running during this high disk usage. Is defender scanning. Is indexer running.

There is also many tasks scheduled in task scheduler such as maintenance that could be running on start up causing high disk usage which could last numerous minutes. The slower your PC is, the longer it will be high disk% usage.

You can look in event viewer and see if any event coincides with the time the disk usage is high%.

Or look in task scheduler under maintenance and other tasks and it will display the last time it ran.
