how to open this doc as word doc?

Hi Steve,

Right click that file, choose 'Open With' - Choose Another App

Important - Check the box marked 'Always use this app to open xxx . . .'

If Word is not in the list, scroll to the bottom and click 'More Apps'

Again if Word is not in the list, at the bottom, click 'Look for another app on this PC', then navigate to find the application Application . . .

 

Word docs

many thanks for responding and trying to help me. the problem is that all of the docs in various folders that were word docs are no longer word docs - they only open on wordpad (and so parts of the docs cannot be seen). does anyone know why that would
happen?

I actually don't know if I have a current subscription to office.

opening a word doc

Are you using Word on a Mac or a PC, that error is generally associate with a Mac?

If you are on a mac:

Open Finder, then navigate to ~/Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content.localized/Startup.localized/Word

In there, you should find a file named linkCreation.dotm delete that file . .
