  1. MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION error causing computer to freeze intermittently

    Hi there,

I have been having an issue that has been increasing in frequency in recent weeks. When I do anything remotely intensive on my computer playing video games, working, etc my computer will freeze, audio stops and the computer reboots.

When I check the Event Viewer, I have the error below:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000009c 0x0000000080000001, 0xfffff8004a298b30, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000. A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 5081bb62-c894-4eff-9749-0b49a18e2638.

I previously have gotten the blue screen with the message advising the error name MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION, however I do not get that anymore and the PC just freezes for a random amount of time and then reboots.

    Specs:

    Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS PRO

    CPU: IntelR CoreTM i5-9600K CPU @ 3.70GHz, 3696 Mhz, 6 Cores, 6 Logical Processors

GPU: Nvidia GeForce RTX 2070 Super

32GB ramp on 4x8GB Corsair DIMM chips

I have updated my BIOS to the latest version as well as run MEMTEST on all 4 ram chips to rule them out as potential issues. The CPU temperature is not reaching above 50 degrees celcius nor is it reaching 100% utilization when the issue occurs. I have also reinstalled windows and formatted the harddrive to rule them out also. At this point, the only remaining piece of hardware on my PC from when the issue began is the harddrive, however any diagnostic I run on it confirms it is working as expected.

At this point, I have run out of ideas as to what could be causing the issue on my PC. I have replaced the PSU along with upgraded most components of my PC at this point but the issue is still occurring.

If anyone could share some insight into this I would greatly appreciate it.

    Kind Regards,

    Mark

    :)

  2. MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION". Computer then freezes!

After upgrading from windows 7 to windows 10, everything seemed OK and was working fine for a week..

Now it stops loading anywhere from the first screen with spinning dots up to the login screen. When I turn it off and restart I get a screen that says :-

"Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info and then we'll restart for you. (0% complete)".

It also says "If you'd like to know more, you can search online later for this error: MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION". Computer then freezes!

Laptop was working fine before upgrade!

  3. MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION". Computer then freezes!

    Hello,

Thank you for posting your concern here in Microsoft Community and welcome to the Windows 10 Family. I would be happy to assist you.

From the description of the issue provided, I understand that the Operating System freezes after upgrading to Windows 10 with the error message MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION.

A machine check exception occurs when Windows and your hardware platform cannot recover from a hardware error so that the system can continue to run successfully and reliably.

I would suggest you to see if you can access the computer through Safe Mode to perform any troubleshooting.

    Ref: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-8/windows-startup-settings-safe-mode

Refer to the below article to perform the troubleshooting one by one and check if it helps to resolve the issue.

However, if you are unable to log in to the computer, I would suggest you to use a bootable media of Windows 10 and perform an
    Automatic Repair.

Automatic Repair is a Windows recovery tool that can fix certain system problems that might prevent Windows from starting. Automatic Repair scans your computer for the problem and then tries to fix it so your computer
can start correctly. Run Automatic repair and check the issue status.

Create Windows 10 ISO: Download Windows 10

Please follow the below steps to perform the Start Up repair for the computer.

    a) Insert the Installation Disk into the disk drive of the computer. Press any key from the keyboard when prompted to.
