  1. Macrium: image and restore to smaller drive

Hey all, First-time poster and also new to Macrium. I have a 1TB M.2 SSD in my laptop that I want to image, transfer to another computer, and then I want to restore the image to a smaller (500GB) replacement M.2 drive. I'm working with only 1 M.2 slot, so I created a Macrium recovery drive. My plan was to save the image in my secondary storage drive, boot from the recovery drive, then restore the image to the (smaller) replacement SSD. I guess my question is: am I going to have issues trying to restore the image to a smaller drive?

    :)

W10 macrium mirror to be restored on a smaller drive

    1. I assume that you've already created a Rescue Disk. Boot up with it.
    2. Click on restore tab and browse for the backup image on the external HD.
    3. Select your current Windows drive as destiunation drive.
    4. Click on each partition of the destination drive, then click "Delete Existing Partition" until empty as shown:

    5. Next click on first partition (400MB) drag and drop to the destination, do the same for 300MB.
NOTE: You might have an extra MSR partition which was not shown with disk management. If so, do the same as for 400MB and 300MB.
    6. Now, drag and drop C drive from source then click on "Restored Partition Properties" as shown. Enter New partiiton size. In your case, would be 150GB.

    7. Drag and drop next partition and repeat step 6, enter 150GB.
    8. Drag and Drop the last partition then click on Maximum size so it would take the rest.
      Final layout should look like this: 400MB, 300MB, 150GB Cdrive, 150GB, ~130G
    9. Click OK ->Next->Finish
    10. Once done, just to make sure it will boot. Click on "Fix Windows Boot Problems" and follow the screen.
    11. Reboot.

NOTE: The screens above are from my disk and shown as an example.

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.
