    Macrium misfire

I just downloaded the trial version of Macrium Reflect 7.1 to create a rescue USB for my PC. I'm new to Macrium and I've never made a rescue stick before, besides using the built-in back-up Windows thingy with DVDs. I reformatted the stick to FAT32 like it asked after it rejected the stick because of *Code 5*. Then I proceeded with the process (which appeared to be installing the correct WinPE as well) to the end. Then it asked me to reboot using the stick to be sure of success. I did and all that came up was the Macrium app showing me the partitions I'd see if I just ran Macrium on its own after a normal boot. I closed the app and Win10 rebooted normally on its own. I checked the size of data on the stick and it said 259MB. There's obviously no WinPE installed on my stick. Wha happen?

    :)

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    • Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    • Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    • click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    • Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    • Boot up with your new HD.

    Newbie needs advice moving Win8.1 ==> Win10

    In your shoes I would
    • Take a backup of the OS drive with Macrium Reflect, as suggested
    • Download the ISO and do an Upgrade install (step 7 in this tutorial)
Macrium gives you a way back if the upgrade doesn't work, and I also think that doing an Upgrade install is probably likely to be your quickest route to being activated on Windows 10 by the deadline.

Once activated, you can consider doing a clean install later but without the time pressure.

    Macrium Reflect and SSD drive

Here's an easy way to do it, With your SSD connected.

    • If not already done. Create a backup image of your current Windows HD. From Macrium, click on "Create an image of the partition(s) required to backup and restore Windows"
NOTE: you could actually clone the disk, but create a backup then restore will allow Macrium to correctly align the cluster size and perform trimming on the new SSD.
    • After step 1 is done, click on Restore tab, select the image from step 1 then click on Select different target disk, select the SSD as destination disk then click on Next->Finish. No need to use/boot from Rescue disk. It will be faster and Macrium will also perform trimming on the new SSD.
    • Disconnect the HD and reboot. Windows should boot up with the new SSD.
