Dino did it a completely different way than I did Cliff. I used Mini Tool to make the 2GB partition, then copied all the files to it from my usb stick, then removed the drive letter. Done.

So not sure now what the difference is between these 2 methods. Except the way Dino does it, MR has a assigned drive letter, mine does not. *Rolleyes

I removed the drive letter also. I'm not sure it makes a difference though. It works either way.

The only difference I would think is, you are not bothered with it in File Explorer with out the drive letter, but it will still show the partition in Disk Management. Maybe with it showing up in File Explorer it's easier to update it, as you'll be able to access it online.

I did it more for security reasons, as I would think it would be harder for any malware to access that partition.
Dino is just about the best expert on anything to do with partitions ....without a doubt. *Smile

Cliff, You are correct. With drive letter assigned, it's easier to update, just copy/extract boot.wim to it but shows up in File Explorer.
Mike, It does not matter how you created the partition. The instruction is for general users that don't have Partition Manager installed.

I too was long time acronis user and recently made the switch hands down there's no comparison Macrium is so much more reliable dependable user-friendly faster and creates the ultimate Windows PE free Acronis you have to pay to create bootable Windows PE so to the guy complaining about macrium being too expensive makes no sense. Wish I knew about this a long time ago

  12. You DID have to pay to get the WinPE option with the older (i.e.5.x) version of MR. They only made it free with the current version. So the other person is remembering the older versions.
