Windows 10: MACRIUM REFLECT: Cannot create a system image onto an external USB hard drive

I am trying to create a system image using the free addition of Macrium Reflect on a HP All-In-One desktop. The source drive C: appears, but the destination drive E: does not. The E drive is a "WD My Passport 259F USB external hard drive. For the Destination, it gives me the choice of specifying a "Folder" followed by a blank field, or a "CD/DVD Burner", but the E drive does not appear.I clicked on the "Next" button at the bottom of the screen, assuming the E drive would appear. Instead I get message "Please enter a location where the image will be saved to".I have used Macrium wi

Creating a system image on an external hard drive.

I simply would like to create a system image to put on an external USB Hard Drive. I believe I have formatted it correctly but I am not sure about that. I would appreciate it if someone would be able to assist me by providing me with clear, concise, step-by-step instructions on:

A. How to format the external USB Hard Drive to put the System Image on and,

B. How to put the system Image on the newly formatted external USB hard drive.

Thanks in advance and please forgive my apparent and obvious lack of technical aptitude. There might be some who read this who might recall a daily comic in the print papers called "Dilbert" who wasn't a very mechanically inclined individual. I am "Dilbert" ten times over as it is clear I am not technically inclined; I am also not mechanically inclined.

 

Clone Entire Drive to an External USB Drive to use a Catastrophic Recovery Drive?

To restore an image that includes the operating system, with Macrium Reflect or any other image software, you boot your computer (or a different computer) with the program's recovery environment, that you create on a USB drive or a DVD (if you're old school.)
Then you can restore an image stored on an external hard drive, or on a NAS or a SAN or a network server.

If the image is stored on an external hard drive, the only additional hardware needed is a USB cable, which you already have because that's how you stored the image on the external hard drive to begin with. If the image is stored on network, no additional
hardware is needed.

 

System image on an external hard drive in Windows 10?

Windows backup systems are being deprecated and are planned to be removed in a future release. I suggest you to use Macrium Reflect, a freeware that allows you to create system Image.
