Macrium Reflect keeps asking for password?

I had been running Reflect for a while using v6, being able to schedule backups without having to enter a password but then I (foolishly?) updated my Windows 10 to the Anniversary build. Now, whenever I try to schedule a backup it keeps saying either my login or password is incorrect. I researched the Macrium forums and it told me I'm supposed to enter my Windows password but using that still didn't fix it. I reset my Windows password and tried again, Still no good.

I understand that the Anniversary build has fouled up the relationship between the MS scheduler and Reflect scheduler. I installed the latest Reflect build which is supposed to fix the problem but it hasn't! I'm not allowed to post a question in the forum as I'm using the free version.

Anyone had this problem and how can I fix it? I don't want to use it if I can't schedule backups. I don't want to buy the full version just so I can ask a question either!

    Thanks for any help.

I have read the blurb put out by Macrium but to be honest, I don't understand it!

    :)

  3. does a clean install of windows 10 erase previous data?

    Hi Will,

You have the option of keeping files. However, it is best to do a backup just in case.

See the Clean Install help links in my previous replies.

Macrium Reflect keeps asking for password?

This was an issue with Reflect, not updating their software to work correctly with known changes to the windows scheduling system, macrium released an update a few days ago that solves the initial issue with their software. if you have applied the update and still have the issue then it's different from the reported one

Hi Nigel, when I said I didn't understand the Macrium 'blurb' I should have said I didn't understand what the update was, other than installing v6.2.1502 which I've done. Beyond that, I don't know what else I'm supposed to do. I made an assumption that Microsoft was at fault but it seems I was wrong!

Assuming that this update will cure the failure of my correct password being accepted would you please help and old-timer to resolve this please?

    Thanks.

I'm still struggling with this problem. I checked your link, I'm assuming you meant page 44 which gave me the info I had already been using, namely about builds 6.2.1502 and 6.2.1495, both of which I have used. I cannot see ANY references to Reflect in Windows Task Manager about "Configure for option set to 'Windows Server 2003, Windows XP and Windows 2000" nor can I see any other references other than mine to the failure of Reflect to accept a perfectly good Windows password or even no password at all.

I have uninstalled Reflect and re-installed both builds, including removal of previous tasks and also deleted any Reflect backups on my backup drive. But when I set up another backup with a schedule and I am asked to enter my either the user name or password, whatever I enter there is not accepted! in effect, whatever I try always fails at this point. So is this specific problem related to the Anniversary build or is it something else?

I don't want to stop using Reflect but it is no use to me at the moment. Luckily I also use Veeam Endpoint Backup which has saved my bacon to day already!

I would be very grateful for any pointers anyone can offer me please.

    Many thanks.

Are you running it from an admin account?
    Or a Standard Account.
With a Standard account normally you need to use the admin password(not user password) to make changes or whenever >UAC< barks up, which it does when starting Macrium, as it needs administrative privileges to run.

Macrium Reflect keeps asking for password?

Well, I am local account Administrator and the only user on this laptop. I never had this problem before the Anniversary update which is why I assumed that had caused it. I just checked UAC settings and it was set to second from top and I never get UAC messages whatever I run, I seem to remember I turned it off as it was coming up whatever I did and it got a bit tedious. I have also tried opening Reflect using start as Administrator but that makes no difference either.

Should I have a separate local account and Admin account or is it OK just to have the one? I seem to get login problems from time to time without really understanding why but that is the way it got setup when I got this laptop.!

I hadn't seen that limitation about Free version not allowing password control but then I have used Reflect for a couple of years and it never came up before until this last Windows Update. In fact, I don't want password protection anyway unless the dog starts to take more of an interest in my laptop!

It looks like you have spotted my problem but now I just need to find out how to fix it!
    Thanks Cliff!

But why is it asking for a user name and password anyway if I'm using a free version? If I just enter with nothing in either box it still asks me to enter them! I don't get it.*Confused

  9. Windows 10 Aniversary Update issues - KnowledgeBase - Macrium Reflect Knowledgebase

    Try this

Set UAC to default - you shouldn't be prompted for all things, something else is wrong here, but for testing, set to default level

Create a new user (local sign-in / Admin)
<!> give it a password for now (some issues occur when no password is set)

Double check Task Scheduler - that where Macrium backup tasks have to be deleted (although MR v6.2.1495 was supposed to allow existing tasks to work without having to delete them)

    Cold start your machine

    login with new account

    Try creating MR backup schedule
There was also something about network passwords - do you have a home network?

I've had a quick look this morning and I have a local admin account that is password protected, which I don't really want. Like I said before, I have been getting into problems since moving on to Windows 10 with password stuff and I'm more and more confused about what I need! I understand that if I use Store to get new apps I need an MS password, which I have but I don't want my local account to be password protected. I just want to fire up my system and have it run through to my desktop so I can use it, which it does now. So, tentatively, I think I go along with creating another local account as I've seen posts about this in the past. I don't know how I came to only have the one account anyway. In terms of security later on I might consider using a pin though.

Having removesdall previous stuff about Reflect, XML files, backups, cleaned registry after uninstal I haven't seen anything left of it, although it would help if I could search the Task Scheduler, I can't see how to though.

    Many thanks!

Sign in User Account Automatically at Windows 10 Startup - Windows 10 Forums use option one:

For the Task scheduler, just click "Task Scheduler Library" and the Macrium task will be on the right pane if it is still there after uninstalling.

Thanks for that Cliff. I'm OK now with not having to login and still nothing found in the scheduler. Next step, create local account/admin. I now have a choice of family member or non-family member. I assume that as it is me again it will be another family member?

My current local account is password protected. I don't know why I need that, can I remove the password?

I've no idea what the password is or when it was setup even! Just tried to create another local user family account, but no joy, I get 'Something went wrong. Try again or tap cancel to setup your device later'. I did a reboot but get the same thing. I wonder if this is why I only have the one user admin account, not being able to create another account?

    More info:
I managed to create another local user admin but couldn't give it a name, I could only enter an email address. It opened the account as password protected even though I wasn't given an option to enter one. I didn't want one anyway.

I removed Reflect again, cleaned registry and reinstalled again. Set up a windows system backup, gave it a schedule and it asked for password again!
