Windows 10: Mafia 1 Steam no background sound?

I got Mafia 1 on Steam (Windows 10).

Everything works except the sound. In cutscenes, for example, the music runs, but during car rides there is no background music.

How can you fix it?

Please confirm a few things for me.

1. Is this issue occurring with ‘Steam’ being installed on your system?
   
2. Have you checked if the controller still works on your Windows when ‘Steam’ is not running in the background?
   

Please check with the following methods.

Method 1:

Stop the process for steam in task manager and check with this.

You can stop ‘Steam’ running in the background by following the steps below:

1. Press ‘Ctrl’, ‘Shift’ and ‘Esc’. This will launch the ‘Task Manager’.
   
2. Click on the ‘Details’ tab, you should be able to locate the ‘steam.exe’ process if ‘Steam’ is running in the background.
   
3. Right-click on it and select ‘End process tree’ to stop the ‘Steam’ running in the background.
   
4. Check if the controller is still working on the Desktop.
   

Method 2:

I would suggest you to check the settings in the Steam application. You may follow the steps below:

1. Launch the ‘Steam’ application, click on ‘Settings’.
   
2. You should be able to locate the ‘Controller’ option under ‘Settings’.
   
3. Under ‘Controller Configuration’, click on the ‘Desktop Configuration’. Please confirm the settings there.

Mafia 2 freezing at start of game on Windows 10

You could try follow this guide. However I dont suggest you install the PC fixer program they link to. Just follow the steps below.

I know my post in the other thread is rather long, but I did point out that with Win10 the
only

option, other than buying the game again from a download site such as Good old Games, Steam, or the Humble store,

is to use a noCD fix/hack.

( Hmm, unfortunately this game is no longer available from any of the above download sites).

- Most noCD fixes, including Mafia, are a simple executable replacement. In this case the fix replaces
Game.exe.

in the games install folder.

I recommend also patching the game to version 1.2 (not possible with all languages though), so you will want to download the noCD fix that suits v 1.2 and the language your game is using.

In the case of the two English language options for v1.2 both should be good.

Note that in recent times some browsers have been flagging Mega Games site as suspect. This is more to

do with the fact that using noCD's is a grey area legally than there being any malware in the files.

I have many fixes from this site, and have never had any problems.
