  1. Mail & Calendar App Failed After Microsoft Update

    Paying customer here.

Microsoft 2020 Windows update done automatically on SurfaceGo and now the Mail & Calendar App, which worked perfectly before, doesn't work.

Problems: Freezing, messages seen in the folder won't open, folders don't load, formatting lost.

Only used for one Gmail account.

Have spent hours troubleshooting, including uninstalling and reinstalling the app several times; turning off Defender; pasting commands in Powershell; adjusting app settings.

At this point I've given up, and started using Outlook instead. But I really liked the Mail app and am extremely frustrated that Microsoft apparently doesn't thoroughly test the effect of their updates that they force on customers. I'm a busy business owner, not an IT person, and can't afford to spend so much time and energy repairing Microsoft's glitches.

Would love to get the App back. PLEASE HELP. TIA.

    :)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. Mail & Calendar App Failed After Microsoft Update :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

  3. KB 3135173: Mail and Calendar update failed

Yeah maybe try as Gas suggested. I see quite a few unsuccessful app updates in the reliability monitor in the past. Maybe changing the setting from auto to manual will work better as that way you can kick them off one by one and they will update more reliably.

It's possible Windows had another go at installing the mail / calendar update at a latter time. Are their any entries in the monitor for a subsequent successful update. Does the mail / calendar app still work for you despite the failed update?

    Hey Shawn,
I did that to no avail, then I ran WSReset.exe; now I'm good on all 3, Mail, Calendar and People! *Confused
    Go figure!
