Windows 10: Mail Folders content disappeared

I running Windows 10 Build 19041. I was in the process of moving some email from my inbox to the various folders and saw that all of the folders are empty. Why would this happen? I have no problem syncing and sending and receiving is fine. Where did everything go?

Disappearing folder

I've encountered a strange problem in windows 10 where I tried to delete a file in a folder, but ended up deleting the whole directory. It did so without the usual pop-up to confirm delete or say it was too big for the recycle bin. It was my Videos folder, so pretty big, but the disk allocation has also remained the same.

I've always had a problem with 'double icons' for the different user folders, including videos, and so I'm thinking it could have something to do with the whole thing, especially as now one of the two video folders has disappeared from the users folders.

The first thing i tried was 'Undo delete', but it just bought the folder back with non of the contents. Then, I went straight to Recuva, but it came up blank (there must have been over 50 videos in the folder)

I'm at a little bit of a loss as where to start looking for this disappeared folder and was hoping someone might have some suggestions?

Before we start troubleshooting the issue, we require more information to assist you better.

  Does the issue persists with both the Email accounts?
  
• 
  Does the issue persists with particular folder?
  
• 
  What type of Email accounts are you using? Is it Outlook, Yahoo, Gmail or any other Email domain?
  

I suggest you to access your Email account through a web browser and check if you are able to find those Emails which are disappeared from Windows Live Mail.

IT APPEARS TO HAPPEN WITH BOTH ACCOUNTS. ONE ACCT IS GMAIL, THE OTHER IS A WEBMAIL ACCOUNT THAT IS SOMEHOW INDEPENDENT, WHICH I HAVE HAD MUCH LONGER THAN THE GMAIL ACCT.

LOOKING MORE CLOSELY I REALIZE THAT SEVERAL OF THE INBOX MESSAGES ARE ALSO IN ANOTHER FOLDER WHICH I HAD SET UP SOME TIME AGO. SOME OF THE MAIL I MOVED YESTERDAY HAS DISAPPEARED ALREADY. I KNOW THIS BECAUSE
THERE ARE NOW EMPTY FOLDERS WHICH HAD MAIL YESTERDAY.

ALSO, MY ARCHIIVE FOLDER IS FULL OF MAIL I JUST RECEIVED THAT IS ALSO IN MY INBOX, PLUS IT HAS MAIL THAT HAD BEEN MOVED TO OTHER FOLDERS…MORE THAN ONE. I HAVE NEVER SAVED ANYTHING TO THE ARCHIVE FOLDER.

I SOMETIMES MOVE MESSAGES MANUALLY AND SOMETIMES BY THE MENU THAT COMES UP WHEN I RIGHT CLICK A MESSAGE. SOMETIMES SEPARATELY, SOMETIMES SEVERAL AT A TIME.

NOW, THE MS LIVE ACCOUNT ISN'T GETTING ANY MAIL. THE WEBMAIL IS BEING DIRECTED TO GMAIL WHICH NORMALLY WOULD THEN BE DIRECTED TO 'LIVE'. THIS HAS STOPPED HAPPENING. I'M USING THE GOOGLE MAIL AS MY EMAIL CARRIER FOR NOW, HOWEVER, IT DOESN'T SEEM TO BE
GETTING THE NORMAL QUANTITY.

cannot create folders in windows mail app

when I go to 'more' in the mail app and click + a dialog display appears however when I enter the name of a new folder and click enter it appears momentarily in the folder list then disappears and a message appears at the top screen saying that the action could not be completed. I have tried the suggestions from the windows help site but nothing works. it appears that my only solution is to uninstall and reinstall the app, however that is not possible because I don't want to lose all my e-mails and accounts.
I think that the problem is definitely with the app and not some weird Windows thing because I can create new folders with my Gmail account.
Any suggestions will be appreciated, thanks in advance
