Windows 10: mailto is not opening windows native mail application in google chrome.

I am trying to redirect the mailto protocol from Google Chrome to the native Windows 11 mail application. The request keeps getting ignored; the mailto protocol does not redirect anything from inside Google Chrome. If I change the handler in chrome to a website Gmail.com it works fine. But, when I remove the websites from chrome://settings/handlers hoping it will open Windows 11 native mail application, Google Chrome does not open the Windows 11 native mail application. When I try the protocol mailto:test in other programs Edge, file explorer… it works properly and redirects me to the

I suggest you to uninstall the application and download the setup files or install directly from Internet explorer by following the steps below:

• Open Internet explorer and type ‘www.google.com’ in the address bar.
• To will get a notification on the right side of the browser to download and install Google Chrome.
• Click on the notification and follow the prompts to download and install the Google Chrome application.

Mail "Unable to open ..." and duplicate Google Chrome in Default apps

Want to post a quick update. Today I ran latest CCleaner and fixed all the issues it found with registry then restarted my pc. After restart problem with Mail "Unable to open ..." was gone and still gone after several restarts. All links being successfully opened with default correct Google Chrome. But duplicate Google Chrome still remains in default browser selection list in Default apps. That would be great to surgically remove it but until then I guess I can ignore it. I won't mark this issue as solved coz completely it's not.
