Main Account (administrator rights) disappeared from login screen

A little background. I've had this laptop for a little over a year and it was given to me by my previous employer after I was laid off. It was cleaned, but it seemed they still had some administrator rights/password on the PC. Because the IT guys were also getting laid off, I wasn't able to get it completely removed. I did, however, have my own login that had Admin rights. Things have been going splendidly.

A couple of days ago, that main login profile disappeared from the login page. It previously just popped up by default and I entered my Microsoft pin.

There is still a "user" I had created for my wife in existence and I can log in there... but it is only a user... no admin rights.
When I try to do anything that would require an administrator, I can't... because I don't have that password. This includes adding additional users.

I believe the main user that disappeared was under my Microsoft account login. I have gone to Microsoft and can log in there and can even see this pc as one of my devices.

Help? Was there an update that caused this?
Today I updated to the latest update (March) to see if it might fix it.

How do I get the option to log into my previous "main profile" that had admin rights?

    :)

Hide the administrator account in the login screen?

Assuming you are referring to the built-in Administrator Account.

    My suggestions :
    1. Give the built-in Admin a password only you know. That way, other users cannot access it even it shows up on screen. And you will be able to logon to it easily.

    2. Disable the Admin Account ...........
Logon to your own account with admin rights.
Right click at tart > select Command Prompt (Admin) > at the flashing prompt, copy/paste this .......
    net user administrator /active:no
    > Enter.
The Admin Account will not show up on sign in screen.

To enable the Admin account, in the Command Prompt (Admin), type............................
    net user administrator /active:yes

Not sure if that is what you want.

  3. When attempt to access the WindowsApps folder with either administrator account, the system says I need administrator rights and denies access

    Hi,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community.

I suggest you to enable built in administrator by following the steps below, create a new user profile and check if the issue persist.

    • Open a CMD window by right clicking on the Start icon, and selecting
      Command prompt (Admin).

    • Type the following command: net user administrator /active: yes

    • Login into the built in administrator user profile and create a new user profile with administrator privileges.

    • Delete the corrupted user account from the built in administrator.

    • Then lock your screen by pressing Windows key + L, and sign-in as the Administrator account.
Check if the issue persist and you can disable built in administrator account by typing the command: net user administrator /active: no
    in the Command prompt (Admin).

To create a new user account follow the steps below:

    • On the Search bar type cmd and
press ctrl + shift + Enter
on the keyboard to open the Elevated
      Command Prompt.

    • Type net user NewAccount password /add and click Enter.

    • Type net localgroup Administrators NewAccount /add and click Enter.

    • Log off from the system and login to the new user account.

    Hope this helps!

Main Account (administrator rights) disappeared from login screen

How to login to root account in LMDE ?

I don't know about debian edition, but in Gnome Edition I can just login as root with my administrator account password at the login screen - but keep in mind that Gnome Edition is based on Ubuntu and Debian Edition is based on Debian and the only common thing between Ubuntu and Debian is the barest necessities in the Linux kernel.
