Hello,I am trying to preserve apps and Files because my Drive only crashes when moving large numbers of files due to a hardware issue.Using a boot drive my Bios won't run from Boot. However I can run the file from inside of windows. I added a new 1Tb drive to my PC to install windows too but I'm not sure I can control where installs of windows end up.Can I choose the new drive to reinstall windows too so that I can salvage my files and applications piece meal when thesystem won't crash?What I have tried:- I tried using a 3rd party software to duplicate the Drive and it's files to the new dri

Use something like CrystalDiskInfo to check SMART on the drive, however if this is an older IDE drive, SMART might not be supported. Cyclic redundancy errors are almost always uncorrectable disk errors. I suspect that the drive is failing juding from the symptoms you described.

 

cyclic redundancy error but chkdsk says all drives are OK

I get a small list of files not backed up every time I run backup in Windows 10.

The system says it is a cyclic redundancy error problem but I have run Chkdsk and scan on all of the drives, both the ones being backed up and the external hard drive being backed up to. All say no errors found.

I have also run an Avast Premier scan of everything, again with no problems found.

For now, I'm just ignoring as the files not backed up are not important ones for me. I'm also planning to buy a new external hard drive and try making a completely new back up set on it to see if that solves the problem.

Any additional suggestions?

 

Can I fix "Data error (cyclic redundancy check)" caused by assigning a Drive letter

I have data stored on an external hard drive. I recently assigned a fixed drive letter to the drive so I could reliably back it up onto cloud backup.

Now, when I try to access the hard drive, I can access some of the data, but I can't access much of it. I get the error message:

Location is not available

M:\Photos is not accessible.

Data error (cyclic redundancy check).

From a bit of research, I'm guessing that this is because there is a registry error relating to when I've tried to change the drive letter.

Is this likely to be the cause? Can I do anything to fix it, such as manually editing the data register? Or do you have any other suggestions as to how I can fix this without loosing the data?
