Windows 10: Major Windows 10 Problems

When you do your clean install, I would make a system image backup of the clean install immediately after Windows 10 is started, again when you have updated the drivers and again when you have installed your programs. That way you have some 'clean' backups to use in the event of serious problems.

 

Yeah I'm currently updating all my drivers and making sure everything is working before I do.

Unfortunately, I ran into some problems with the menu not opening and not being able to search for programs. Really frustrating because this happened right after a clean install....

I'm making a new topic to address this.

 

On third party programs I am a fan of Macrium Reflect which has already been mentioned. The reason third party programs are better is because they have more capabilities but I have nothing against the built-in system image backups as none of them have failed on me either. I have volunteered for quite a few years at a couple of non-profit organizations and my usual advice is: select a backup program but test it once it's completed. I've literally seen tears in people's eyes when they lost their data because they don't want to bother backing up their system, especially their data. I carry a portable external hard drive and show them how easy it is to encourage them to purchase an external hard drive and maintain a scheduled backup but most of the time it doesn't matter to them. I could go on and on but I think you know what I mean.

 

You shouldn't have to update your drivers after installing Win 10 - your main drivers needed for your PC (as compared with, say, a driver for a scanner) are looked after by Windows. Note: The use of driver scanning programs is actively discouraged here- although I would use one in exceptional circumstances.

When you first installed Windows, did your start menu open? And could you search then?

To summarize,

I did a fresh install of Windows 10 and afterwards, I updated Windows to the Anniversary Update and that seems to solve the my problems.

So far I haven't had any problems with the Anniversary Update so I would call this a success in my book.
