Windows 10: Make a PC "Cellular Only" while using NIC for local LAN

OK, here's my setup... I have a Toughbook Dell laptop that interfaces with a piece of equipment (temperature monitor) over ethernet. The configuration on the LAN is a simple IP and subnet mask to be able to talk to the box. No gateway is set. In the past, we've used WiFi to a hotspot in the truck to maintain an internet connection for remote support and join.me sessions used to monitor software remotely. In trying to simplify this solution, we purchased cellular cards for the Toughbook. Unfortunately we've discovered that Windows 10 is discarding the cellular connection while the LAN is connected.


Things I've tried (in no particular order...):

-Registry hack to set all connections except 3G and 4G to metered

-Network interface configuration of LAN and WiFi to metered.

-Registry hack for DNS query

-Network interface metric options set to manual and ordered accordingly (100 for cell, 200 for WiFi, 300 for LAN)

-Powershell network interface metric set

-Shared internet connection from cellular to LAN

-Tweaks to the NIC via driver

-BIOS set to NOT manage the cellular/wifi cards power.

-Tried using ForceBindIP software, does not recognize the cellular IP or GUID as an available interface.


I think that's about it... In regards to that last bullet, NETSH command does not list the cellular card in it's available interfaces. So to me it seems cellular is deemed a second class citizen in the networking world and is always going to be ignored with WiFi or LAN is enabled and connected. Is anyone aware of how to configure Windows to either STOP managing the connections or manually specify the network connection to use? Or a software that does this? This would greatly improve the ease of use for our users if the laptop was just always online via cellular and they didn't have to think about getting connected up while setting up in the trucks. Local account - as before - disconnect NIC cable


Hi there

as before (Win 8 / 8.1) if you want a LOCAL account simply during the setup phase just disconnect the NIC cable (or if on a VM detach the virtual NIC. Then go back a step and it will then prompt you for a local user.

Surprised nobody has mentioned this yet.

Good LAN party games?

Most of my suggestions have already been listed.

However, I found Swat4 to actually be a pretty fun LAN game, especially at smaller LAN parties.

 

Asus P5Q Onboard Lan issues...

I've just reformated my pc, and it all runs fine except for the the onboard lan. I've tried every LAN driver on ASUS list, and I can't get it to work. It keeps searching for the connection, but it never finds it. The internet runs fine on my moms PC, so it can't be the internet provider*Frown Onboard LAN is enables in BIOS, and I did try to clear CMOS without any luck.
Any suggestions? It really sux.... I think the P5Q Pro is a buggy board...
