Windows 10: Make the Explorer navigation bar take the whole window

Since the last update to Windows 10, the navigation bar where the breadcrumbs are displayed in Windows Explorer gets displaced by the "Search" box.This results in a very narrow navigation box on my small screens, and a search box that takes up 3/4 of the horizontal space available.Is there any way to minimize the size of the search box, or put it on another line so it's more like the older view?I use the breadcrumbs a lot more than the search. I've had bad luck with the search since Vista 95, 98, 2000, and XP's search were great and use AgentRansack instead 99% of the time FileSearchEX is a

are you running IE7? if not that wouold be my first suggestion,upgrade to ie7 that can fix some stability issues with windows explorer

 

How to get horiz scrolling in Navigation Pane in Win 10 Explorer

Welcome to TenForums @linuxgarou

One suggestion would be to hover the mouse over the dividing line between the navigation pane and the list of files (it's the right-hand edge of the navigation pane's vertical scroll bar). When the pointer becomes a double-headed arrow you can click-and-drag to make the navigation pane wider.

I have mine set to about twice the width of the one in your screenshot.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK
