Windows 10: make windows 10 keep ram reserve?

can we make windows 10 to hold some ram reserve always free for normal system functionality? i am using fl studio and kontakt 5, and im experiencing freezes of laptop sometimes because of hdd paging after all ram is used.

Windows 10 didn’t ruin your RAM, ZachCole.

If your RAM is faulting, that would be the culprit of your Windows 10 issues.

If your RAM is faulting, like Lawrence Crumb said, make sure it’s seated properly. Pull it out, push it back in. Test the RAM again. If problem persists, try pulling it back out, use the eraser cleaning method gently on the RAM stick gold pins. Make sure

It wouldn’t hurt to do a quick spray of air into the slot before putting the RAM back in. Make sure the RAM pins don’t contain eraser dust on either sides before finally inserting it back into the slot.

If you working with multiple RAM sticks, and the problem still persists, take that bad one out. Test the RAM, make sure that you have the right one, or that multiple RAMs aren’t faulting. Rare occurrences, but faulting / bad slot can be also the culprit.
I always pull the RAMs out, and test the supposedly faulting RAM into another slot.

If the faulting / bad RAM has been confirmed fully. Don’t put this faulting / bad RAM back into the computer, buy another compatible one, as Lawrence Crumb has advised.

If you have at least another RAM to work with, and you like me, don’t like waiting until the last minute. Continue forward.

Do a ‘ thorough ’ chkdsk on your drive. Afterwards, It is important to boot into Safe mode to run SFC a DISM utilities, for such severe cases.

Windows 10 Boot Issue Weird Errors Blue Screen

Safe mode and memory tests are good with old 2GB RAM. I can't manage to run these with new 8GB RAM because the system does not boot up.

What does this mean in terms of next try?

- Should I try with 4GB RAM (may be 4GB x 2 to make it 8GB)?

The system does not boot up even to do a fresh installation of Windows 10. After Loading Files it just shuts down.

- Should I try installing Windows XP first (system boots here) and then try Windows 10 installation? Will that work?

I believed Windows 10 is capable of making optimum use of RAM up to 24GB.

This is so frustrating.

It occurs:
1. I am in FL Studio, I already used 90% of RAM, and it probably started paging on HDD.
2. I am adding new instrument sample which would usualy take 500mb to 2GB RAM.
3. Instrument is being loaded half way, and gets stuck.
4. Mouse cursor, or keyboard is not responsible, but it is responsible, why, it is inside next step.
5. If I press caps lock, it will turn on after minute or two or 5 or 10 minutes, if I move mouse it will move a bit after 1,2,5,10,20 minutes.

Note: Loading an instrument sample inside Kontakt 5 uses HDD to load patch inside RAM memory.

My guess here is, I have used all RAM, I have overloaded HDD usage on loading patch + acting as ram (aka paging file), this caused me to have that hang explained in 5 steps?

Am I correct in my guess, or I am incorrect in my guess?

You can try CleanMem Free that will give you about 10% of memory back.

But since your problem is more about responsiveness, you should try Bitsum.

 

Install more RAM into your system. This is honestly your only solution. You are trying to use more RAM then your system can handle. Everything you do is just going to end in failure. You need more RAM.

 

I have 8gb RAM. Idle, I'm using almost 3Gb with a browser open. A video card may grab system RAM.

If you're using memory intensive processes, as @logicearth says, you need more RAM- you've only 4Gb - at least I assume that's what your specs mean. However, more RAM won't help unless your OS is 64 bits.

See your resource monitor (you can open that from your task manager).
