    Making an Old Program Run on Newer Versions of Windows


    I have a simple program which always ran on previous versions of Windows on my two computers. But after I have installed the latest build of Windows 10 on the first computer and Windows 11 on the second computer, the following error messages appear when I try to start the program:Error on Windows 10:Error on Windows 11:I tried to run the program in compatibility with Windows 8 and 7, but the same error messages appeared. Is it necessary to install some versions of Net Framework or Visual C++ in order to make the program run on Windows 11?

    Most programs created for earlier versions of Windows will work in this version of Windows, some older programs might run poorly or not at all. You may run the
    Program Compatibility Troubleshooter on most programs to help detect and fix common compatibility problems:

    • In the search box, type run programs.
    • Select Run programs made for previous versions of Windows, and then select
      Next.
    • Choose the program you want to fix. If you don't see the program in the list, select
      Not Listed.
    • Select Next, and then follow the instructions in the troubleshooter.

    Sometimes, programs are just too old run on modern versions; especially if you are running a 64 bit version of Windows 10.

    Your suggestion of installing in a virtual machine under a compatible version of Windows, such as Windows XP sounds like the best idea.
