Who do I get help from

I am convinced there is a major fault in my computer. It has been back to Team knowhow twice. I have contacted the team on several occasions but the same faultsoccur...freezing, word and excel not responding and very very slow responses at other times. This Dell Inspiron isonly 1 and a half years old and it seems like a complete waste of money . I am really desperate to get help.

  2. FireWire Malfunction

I have an old video camera that requires a firewire. I've had two different firewire to USB ports saying that they have both malfunctioned within the seconds of inserting them into my computer. I've downloaded the IEEE 1394 Legacy ports and done them step
by step but to no avail. Nothing seems to work and it keeps saying that it's malfunctioned. Please help!

    Keyboard malfunction

    Hi Ashish,

Keyboard malfunction can be caused by several reasons. One possible reason for this is software incompatibility. Let's find out what's really causing this.

First, we suggest that you run the hardware troubleshooter for drivers. This ensures that your device gets the latest driver updates through Windows updates. Here are the steps:

    • Click the Start button, enter "Windows Update" in the search box, and then, in the list of results, select
      Windows Update.
    • In the left pane, select Check for updates.
    • On the Select the updates you want to install page, look for updates for your device, select the check box for the driver that you want to install, and then click
OK. There might not be any available driver updates.
    • On the Windows Update page, select Install updates. Windows Update will tell you if the updates were successfully installed.

Second, if a driver is found, we recommend that you download and install the driver yourself. To do that:

    • Click the Start button, type "device manager" in the search box, and then select
      Device Manager.
    • In the list of hardware categories, find the device that you want to update, and then double-click the device name.
    • Click the Driver tab, click Update Driver, and then follow the instructions.

Third, make sure that your language settings is English (United States) and your Country/region is in the United Sates. To check that:

    • Press Windows key + I.
    • Select Time & language, and click Region & language.
    • Under Country or region, select United States.
    • Under Languages, choose English (United States).

Once done, kindly restart your device and see if we're able to resolve the issue.

Update us with the result, so we can further assist you.

    Windows 10 malfunction

    Hi Ari,

Thank you for posting your query in Microsoft Community Forums. We are glad to help you.

There is a possibility that this issue might have occurred due to corrupt hardware or system files have gone corrupt in the system.

I would suggest you to perform the following methods and check if it works:

    Method 1:
Please check if the issue is caused by some of the hardware malfunctioning on your computer. I would suggest to disconnect all the External devices connected to your computer, except the mouse and the keyboard and check if you
    can able to boot.

If the issue persists, try this.

    Method 2:
Let's perform a “Startup Repair” using Windows 10 bootable DVD or USB drive and check if that helps. Initiating repair from CD/DVD may have different results than earlier since the source of boot is different now.
So, I would suggest to perform the repair again and check if it helps.

If you don’t have the bootable DVD or USB drive, please refer to the steps in the article given below to create one and then follow the steps given below.

Create installation media for Windows 10

    Download Windows 10

Once you have made the bootable USB or DVD drive, please follow the steps.

    • Insert the installation DVD or USB and boot Windows 10 from it.
    • In the ‘Windows setup’ page, select the‘language to install’, ‘Time and currency format’ and the ‘keyboard or input method’ and click on ‘next’.
    • Click on ‘Repair your computer’ and select
      ‘Troubleshoot’.
    • Click on ‘Advanced options’ and select ‘Automatic Repair’ and select the operating system.

You might also require to change the boot priority in BIOS in order to allow the computer to boot from CD/DVD.

Important: While scanning the hard drive if any bad sectors are found, the scanner tries to repair that sector, any data available on that might be lost.

Note: Modifying BIOS/ complementary metal oxide semiconductor (CMOS) settings incorrectly can cause serious problems that may prevent your computer from booting properly. Microsoft cannot guarantee that any problems resulting
from the configuring of BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Modifications of the settings are at your own risk.

Hope this information helps. Do contact us for further queries. We will be happy to assist you.

    Regards,

    Jenith
