  1. Malicious Software Removal Tool in Windows

    Hi Brink,

I use to only run it manually on Windows 7 & 8 as I preferred to do it that way, but in Windows 10, since updates are auto downloaded and installed I see now it runs automatically.

It ran last night "automatically" on my system and I just checked the logs this morning.

Is there a way to only run it manually??

I'm not sure unless you may have a task set to run it on schedule. It hasn't ran automatically for me yet. *Confused

  3. I'm on the HOME edition, so updates download and install automatically, and in the last round of updates, the MSRT was included, and it looks like it kicked off as soon as it was installed by Windows 10.

I'm not sure if there is a way to 'not' have it run after in is downloaded ??

Hello, I am wondering if you can continue using your PC while this tool is running. Also, I have windows 10 and have never seen this run automatically hence why I am here to find out how to run it.

    Cheers,

Hello Mum, and welcome to Ten Forums. *Smile

Yes, you can continue to use your PC normally while MSRT is scanning.

The Malicious Software Removal Tool runs in quiet mode in the background, but you can run it on demand as needed.

Something I never noticed before, while looking at the log(after a few minutes) buy giving %WINDIR%\debug\mrt.log in Run:

    It sends a report?
Or does it just mean it created/updated its log?
