When i scan my computer it shows something named: "services and controller app.exe" as trojan.BitCoinMiner and that file is inside windows multmedia platform. To be honest it's my first time seeing that file and i'm not sure if it's something legit connected to windows is it ok for me to delete the whole file or the app or what should i do?

    :)

    malwarebytes

    Dear John,

What I meant was that I would suggest that you start your own question in the Malwarebytes help forum and explain to them what you are experiencing now.

I'm not a Malwarebytes user myself but it sounds to me as if your problems/issues started when you updated your free Malwarebytes to the current version 4.

If I were you I would follow these steps (although they say that's for version 3.... But I couldn't find anything for version 4):

    https://forums.malwarebytes.com/topic/190532-having-problems-using-malwarebytes-please-follow-these-steps/

    and ask your own question.

I would like to mention that I used to recommend the free Malwarebytes version quite often in the past.

Since some time though I - personally - am wondering about quite a few things in connection with Malwarebytes.

In my personal opinion: Malwarebytes tends to be verrrry aggressive in what they decide to flag as potentionally unwanted programs....

You certainly can decide what you want to allow and what not, the respective settings for version 4 seem to be explained here:

    https://support.malwarebytes.com/docs/DOC-3543

What I would like to suggest as well is that you perhaps think about asking for free expert (real experts) help in this forum:

    https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/f/22/virus-trojan-spyware-and-malware-removal-assistance/

This does not mean that I necessarily think that your computer is "infected" ... But: It certainly cannot damage anything when real malware experts lead you through some thorough check-ups/scans etc.

I hope this helps a bit...

    Best wishes,

    Smeed.

  3. Malwarebytes = False Positive??

Recently downloaded Malwarebytes and decided to do a quick scan after noticing random slow downs on my machine.

Now i regularly run a full scan with Windows Defender and KIS using the full rootkit scan option.

when I ran Malwarebytes. it came up with this

Malwarebytes Scan Shows a Trojan Inside Windows Multimedia Platform [IMG]

I googled this after it was detected and theres not really that much information on it at all. but whatever little information there is, conflicts with one another.

There are some sites that say that it isnt a threat. then there are those that say it is a 'medium' threat and describes how to remove it.

Ive tried using Malwarebytes to remove it more then 5 times. I even went into safe mode to scan and see if i can removed them both with Malwarebytes and both manually following the steps on a website. however. even though Malwarebytes has detected the threat in that particular folder. when i do a file search or look for it manually with folder options set to show all hidden files. I cant seem to find it at all. and the only UL.dll file is located in a Roxio Shared folder.

Windows defender didnt pick anything up. Kaspersky 2012 on a full custom scan with the rootkit option selected didnt pick anything up.

and i have OCD so im starting to panic as i dont want to completely reinstall windows as this install is pretty fresh.

I have no idea how something like this would get past kaspersky and regular scans. Im always careful of the sites i visit otherwise kaspersky would block me from entering the site.

    WHAT DO I DO?

Then I'll suggest you follow these steps:

    1. Press Windows Key + R to open the run dialog

    2. In the box that comes up, type services.msc and click OK

    3. In the list, find Windows Management Instrumentation, and double click it

    4. Change startup type to Automatic

    5. See if you can open Malwarebytes, if not, do a reboot.
