  1. Managing data to increase life span of SSD

I recently got a SSD to replace my faulty HDD. The SSD is my only drive. It is a Crucial 500GB and they say it has a 180 TBW. I was just wondering how long this drive might last me. I have seen a lot on the internet about writes and stuff like how if you write 20-30GB of data per day it will only last you so long but if you write less than 10GB a day it will lats for a very long time, but I don't think fully understand all this.

When they talk about writing data, do that only mean the data that YOU write or does that count the data that you create and all the data that windows creates per day? For example: when they say 20-30GB a day is that just the data that YOU create or windows? I would say that I write less than 20GB a day to my drive, but I have no idea how much windows creates each day with all of its 100+ logs.

I checked event viewer there are over 200 logs in there. Yes some of the logs ore disables by default, some don't log anything at all, some do not log very much, but the rest create many logs per day. I don't know just how much log data windows creates per day, but I would say that it is at least 100MB per day, and when the logs reach their max size and windows just writes over old logs that makes it go way over 100MB per day.

I also don't understand if a 20GB per day write involves just the process of saving data to the drive or if it involves the process of moving data, writing data and moving data back.I read that SSDs save data by needing to first moving current data in a block writing new data then moving every thing back.

So that would mean that if you write 20GB of data it could end up being a 40GB write cycle.

So I guess the question that I am trying to ask is will my 500GB SSD last me at least 10 years? What exactly does 180 TBW mean? Does that mean if the drive only gets 1TB of writes in a year it will last 180 years? How much data does windows alone create in a year, and do people take this into account when they say the average office user writes about 20GB a day?

And a final question. How can I disable some of the windows logs that I don't need? I tried going in event viewer and disabling some of the longs that I don't need. They say that they are disabled, but events are still being logged in them. I have not restarted my computer, do I need to do that?

    :)

    Windows 10 search issues

Some SSD optimization tools disable the Windows Indexing Service altogether, and that is likely to increase the SSD's life span. But I also experienced that the Windows search function becomes unusable after that.

    1. open the Control Panel
    2. type "indexing options" in the search box in the upper right
    3. select 'Indexing Options'
    4. if the 'Users' folder is not included click 'Modify' and select it

This is just complementing scobi's answer (which is the correct one) with the concrete steps to fix it.

    Post your SSD life here

He is referring to CrystalDiskMark, a benchmarking tool similar to AS SSD, running either will add wear to the drive so it is not recommended to run either too often.

CrystalDiskInfo though is just an information tool that displays data on HDD's and SSD's, which is what puma99dk| is suggesting.

There are no more files and ASUS Data Security Manager

I've been having the same issues trying to save files.

I followed all of the steps but ASUS Data Security Manager keeps reappearing. How do I really get it to delete? I've done the uninstall four times and it just pops back in the list.
