Windows 10: Manual Update Error and Issue Creating a Shortcut After Upgrade to Windows 10, version 2004

I upgraded my HP all-in-one desktop from Windows 10 version 1909 to version 2004 this past Saturday, 7/25/20. Performing a Manual Update indicated that this new version was available for download, so I did it. The PC is only about 6 months old.


The upgrade appeared to go okay. Took about 50 minutes. After the upgrade I ran a manual update and the latest Net Framework downloaded. I then ran manual update again to make sure everything was up to date. Now every time I run manual update, I get an error message indicating that Update is apparently trying to install a driver that is older than what is already on my PC! It doesn't tell me which driver it is.


Then on Sunday, I tried to create a shortcut by clicking and dragging a program from the Start Menu to the desktop. It acts like it's working, but it isn't because the shortcut never appears on the desktop. This is happening withany program I try it on. So, I decided to go into File Explorer and create a shortcut from an Excel spreadsheet by using right click, create shortcut and I it won't work that way either. I won't even create the shortcut and gives me a message indicating my disk is FULL which of course it isn't.


Prior to Saturday's upgrade I never had a problem creating shortcuts on the HP...by either of the methods described above.


I performed the upgrade from version 1909 to 2004 on my 10-month old Lenovo laptop about a month ago and everything went fine. No errors when performing manual update and no issues creating shortcuts to desktop.


Any thoughts out there?

Windows 10 upgrade problem, no input accepted

i've seen this when the stock USB drivers went kaput. Only ever seen it once - i used a PCI USB 2.0 card and connected the mouse and keyboard to that, and manually updated the USB 2/USB 3 drivers.
