  1. Manual update using DISM: works for MSU files, fails for CAB files

My Windows 11 install is for some reason disabling the entire USB system, even though everything works when booting from a USB. Using DriverQuery, I confirmed that the new desktop has all the drivers that are working normally when booting from USB though the drivers for the unavailable devices are not in state "running" in the desktop, but they are "running" in the USB boot. Now I'm trying to install updates manually. After downloading the latest MSU and CAB files for Windows 11 from the Microsoft update catalog, I can successfully install the MSU files, but there are errors for all the CAB

    :)

    manually install cab-files

    Hallo alltogther

Cause win10-auto-update frequently sucks my Broadband volume dry (updating 4 pc) - i decided to do it manually and

download the files from update-catalogue. All works with .msu files, but with cab files never.

I use dism ( DISM.exe /Online /Add-Package /PackagePath:xxx), but the same happens also with PkgMgr

    CBS.log says:

And indeed, there is not an update.mum file in the .cab (in any i tried).

So the question is: How to install these files, or are they not for this purpose?

    Regards Georg.

    P.S The OS is a win10-pro, 10.0.15063

How to get damn DISM to work?

Thx guys, I'll compress this data into a blog post. For all the so called guides I've read, not a single one mentioned it has to be WIM file (some listed even ESD which clearly doesn't work) or that certain ISO images don't work with DISM.

After I've done DISM thingie, SFC also managed to repair stuff. Which is what I've needed here.

Manual update using DISM: works for MSU files, fails for CAB files

windows update failed with error code 80092004

Somehow the solution got messed up; I just fixed it....

    try this command;

    expand -f:* "C:\updatefix\windows8.1-kb4338415-x64_cc34d1c48e0cc2a92f3c340ad9a0c927eb3ec2d1.msu" C:\updatefix\expanded\

I successfully made it to Step 4 with 2 of the 3 .CAB Files.

    Only one .CAB File did I need to use Steps 5 & 6;

    Windows8.1-KB4338419-x64.cab

I sent the commands in Steps 5(success) & 6(fail) for the above .CAB File, and there was some success. When applying Step 6 to the above, I went from 0% to 33.2%. I have attempted Steps 5 & 6 on this .CAB File four times now. Same exact percentage result
    every time:

    An error occurred - Package_for_KB4338419 Error: 0x80092004

    Error: 0x80092004

DISM Failed. No operation use performed.

For more info, view log file.

Do you want Log File? Thoughts on what I should do next?

    Try this:

First download all .msu files that come with KB4054566 and KB4340558 from the Microsoft Update-catalog site.

Expand them with the expand command and follow this steps one by one (sometimes the machine has to be rebooted in between this steps):

    1. dism /online /remove-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338424-x64.cab

    2. dism /online /remove-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338419-x64.cab

    3. dism /online /remove-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338415-x64.cab

    4. dism /online /remove-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4054566-x64.cab

    5. dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4054566-x64.cab

    6. dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338415-x64.cab

    7. dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338419-x64.cab

    8. dism /online /add-package /packagepath:C:\updatefix\expanded\Windows8.1-KB4338424-x64.cab

Please let me know if this helps
