    Manual updates possible or not

    Hi there

    Is it possible to manually install updates. I don't like this "Dumbed down" methodology as you might with very good reason not want to install "all possible updates".

    You can't (or I can't find it) even get a history of your updates -- another retrograde step.

    This is one area that has definitely regressed -- what happens if you have say 6 computers --do I need to download say a new build 6 times for the computers. There won't always be ISO's available as far as I can see if this automatic update becomes the norm.

    I suppose this is all because of that stupid "Store" system copied from Apple and Google. Those businesses have a different business model. Ms doesn't need to go that route.

    Cheers

    I would use the rotate when browsing the net, but i did not find a way to use landscape view in the browser.

    You are right, updates have been dumbed down, if it keeps going this way, I may end up preferring W8.1

    Updates are going to be automatic in 10 TP. I hope this changes when 10 goes final.

    It's quite likely, when Windows 10 goes final, these options will change:

    However, as time goes by and the 'native' side of Windows keeps diminishing, I'm afraid we'll be getting more and more of our updates from here:

    Updates are mandatory in the TP so that Microsoft can ensure everyone is using the most recent builds. It makes no sense for them to get feedback and telemetry from older builds where problems may already be fixed.

    If an update breaks your system, then then you will have to wait until they fix that... that's part of what being a beta tester means.. sometimes your system breaks. You go back to your production version of Windows and wait for a new release.

    It's a lot of extra work for Microsoft to sift through reports and updates from 6 ages old versions where things have been fixed a long time ago. They rightfully say, if you want early access to this, then you must always use the most recent stuff.

    It will not be this way in the final release. And probably not even in the Consumer preview.

  10. History is there - in advanced, but it's useless.

    Windows update will have to revert to the Control Panel - but MS is playing with everything.

    I submitted feedback
    - WU is brain dead - please fix it so I can easily see what's been installed, what is offered, and all the other good information that has been lost in the 9926 WU. I can't provide service my clientele without this information!

  11. Go to >settings>update and recovery>advanced: should give you a list of installed updates.

    Hi, to bring back Windows Update in Control panel follow this steps in registry editor:
    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX]
    "IsConvergedUpdateStackEnabled"=dword:00000000

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsUpdate\UX\Settings]
    "UxOption"=dword:00000000

    Now Windows update is back in Control panel and you can configure which updates to install and which to hide.

    Note: this is a registry hack and Microsoft recommends not doing it. Use it on your own risk.

    Good luck,

    These tweaks will break your Build Flight, you won't get your new build at 4:00PM(EST) today! *Wink
    Also, by the time you install W10TP and get in there to perform the tweaks, all the updates are already installed anyway.

    I still show the Build Flight enabled and seems to be working below for me with Windows Update added to the Control Panel. Where did you get that it broke this for reference?
