  5. Alright, but one thing.
I'd like to keep the things installed on my C drive. I don't want to wipe it and install it with a version of windows without settings, program files, etc transferring over. I also don't have a working key for windows 7. I had to call them and talk to them for an hour to get mine activated.
It seems that windows update has downloaded the windows 10 update, but since i'm reserved, it won't start installing it. Windows update also doesn't show this anymore:

Manual Upgrade "$windows - BT"? [IMG]

But the GWX icon in the notifications opens to say i'm reserved...

As long as Windows 7 is activated, you can safely upgrade to 10 without losing anything and be activated afterwards. *Smile

On my Windows 8.1 I still do not have the $Windows~BT folder (which Chuckwheat has already showing on his C drive) and the windows update says "windows 10 upgrade reserved". Do you think it would be ok to use the Media Creation Tool step 3 you stated above to upgrade to Windows 10 instead of waiting? My windows 8.1 with Media Center is activated.

    cheers

  8. Manual Upgrade "$windows - BT"?

    Oh

Ok I think I misunderstood the upgrading instructions on Microsoft's page. I downloaded the tool and selected to upgrade the pc now. Now it's showing that it's downloading (54% now). Will this allow me to upgrade it without the use of and iso, or an external drive?

  9. so far, i think the answer is yes. I think the tool is the best way to upgrade right now. It seems to be working on mine.
the folder is hidden by default. Are you able to see hidden folders? (In "Folder Options", "View" tab, "hidden files and folders", "show hidden files and folders" checked.)

yes I always have my folders set to view. I downloaded the tool yesterday and created the usb windows 10 boot drive. But deleted the $windows~BT and $windows~WS folders. I was hoping MS would update my computer with the $windows~BT folder but nothing yet *Sad
