Windows 10: Manually installing updates

I have recently installed windows 10 and am already getting extremely frustrated with the inaccessibility of windows updates, it seems that Windows these days wants users to have zero control over what happens with their computer. I disabled mine because I read about users having BSOD issues due to windows updates crippling PCs, and the symptoms matched mine. Since I disabled them completely during my third install I have had no issues, but despite disabling automatic updates in settings windows was still installing updates automatically anyway, so I had to manually disable it completely under services. What a ridiculously awful system.


Windows forces this upon its users and would let them manually install individual newer updates. When you disable automatic updates, this prevents it for even checking for updates, how strange, I can't even see what updates there are without Windows forcing me to install them automatically, there are no longer any pause options for updates, and you can't select on any of the updates it's detected and started to automatically install, what a joke.

Wanted to see if anyone's found a way around this awful system, as I am having issues with direct X launching on steam and wanted to see if there was a direct X update among the others I could install.

Windows 10 Manual Updates Management

I have just installed windows 10. When windows 10 is updating (and only when its updating) there is a chance the system will randomly hang/freeze.

This is very annoying and happens often but, only when updating.

In an attempt to avoid this problem, I have decided to manually download and install updates.

To do so, I have to do the following.

1. Disable Windows 10 automatic updates.
   
2. While windows 10 updates are disabled find and list all the required updates (preferable with a dependency tree of some kind)
   
3. Download the required updates manually.
   
4. Install the required updates manually.
   

I was able to figure out the steps (1) and (3) (and I'm guessing step (4) is a simple execution)

How should I go about achieving step (2)?

 

Vista Pre-SP1 vs. Vista SP1

I've been Windows Updating for two straight days and I finally saw SP1. If you want to troubleshoot it, follow these steps:

• Show hidden updates
• Manually install any failed updates (google the KB_____ and install from the windows site)
• Make sure everything in Device Manager is good to go

I had to do step two for like 4 or 5 updates to be able to see SP1.

Any other benchmarks you guys want to see? I might try PCMark05 (I think it works on Vista).

 

Insurgency wont install and run for me....

I have played and have fully updated CS and Half life 2....
I am using the newest client and installed the SDK.

I am completely blown away, if i click the desktop icon it starts the sdk and then closes, and it doesn't show up in my game list...

First mod attempt install here, followed the directions step by step on the mods website...

Any ideas?
