Windows 10: Many fonts used by Microsoft are poorly thought out - the lowercase L l looks like a...

I have wasted countless hours correcting account because my name has a capital i in it, and most people assume it's a lowercase L. It's not a serif, so it makes no sense that two letters should look identical.


For instance, I will type a string of alternating I's and L's lowercase. Copy and paste this string in Garamond, and you'll see that they alternate:


IlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIlIl


This is the case for Calibri and Arial. I have to change the font and spend hours fixing this issue.





Are there any plans to update these fonts to make the letters distinguishable?

I am wondering if Verdana 10 is a choice. I've looked at that font within MS 2016 Word and see in that font that one can distinguish ’I' (uppercase i) from 'i' (lowercase i) from 'l' (lowercase 'L', which i have capitalized within the single quotes so you
will know which letter i am referring to). Can you see the difference? I can't see it in Segoe UI or Segoe UI light. Many of my file names are acronyms or shortened in some way (such as 'I-year' or 'i-year' [for 'initial year'] or 'l-Year' [for 'last year']).
Verdana distinguishes these three letters the best.

MS has changed aspects of the Segoe UI font in Windows 10. Whereas one can distinguish Segoe UI i (lowercase i), I (uppercase I), and l (lowercase L) in

File Explorer Windows 7, the last two letters can not be distinguished in any Segoe UI font in File Explorer Windows 10..

Thus, I can not see the difference in I-file.docx and l-file.docx in File Explorer in Windows 10. (The former has an uppercase i ['I' stands for 'Initial'] and the latter has a lowercase 'L' ['l' stands for 'last'] ).

Therefore, my wish for Verdana.

 

Not able to remove Local Disk L:

Open command pront as administrator (right click run as admin)

Type "diskpart"

Type "list volume" look for the volume assigned to L: drive

Type "select volume X" where X is the volume you want to remove aka L drive

Type "remove letter=L"

This should do the trick for you.

I am Matt, an Independent Advisor and a specialist technician. I would like to assist you with this and hopefully I can help you to resolve this issue promptly.

Please follow the steps below;

1. Press Windows Key + Run to open "Run"

2. Type in diskmgmt.msc and press enter.

3. In the main part of disk management look for the drive associated with L: drive

4. To the left where it lists the disks eg. Disk 0, Disk 1, Disk 2 right click on the corresponding disk with disk L: and select "Offline".

If this does not work let me know and I will guide you though removing the device from device manager.
