  1. Many Unknown Files with Same Date on My D Drive

I was just opening my documents folder, which I keep on my D drive, when I noticed 32 files all dated the same date and time. So, they were installed at the same time or from the same application installation. There are 9 installres*.dll files in different languages. Their properties are File Description: UI Wrapper Resource DLL, Product Name: Microsoft Visual Studio. There are 9 corresponding Eula.txt files. There is also install.exe. Property details say that it is the installer for Microsoft Visual Studio. Then, there is VC_RED.MSI and VC_RED.cab which say installation database for Visual C

  2. D drive

    Hi,

Based on the details you have provided us, it appears that there might be some corrupted contents on the said partition. We can also consider that this is caused by a virus.

For us to check if a certain virus is hiding your files, kindly follow the steps below:

    • Type Command prompt in the search bar.
    • Type-in the following command:

      attrib -h -r -s /s /d D:\*.*
    • Press Enter to execute the command.

If you think that there is nothing important stored in it, then we suggest that you reformat your D drive so that you can use the free space for important files.

You can follow the steps below to start with the process:

    • Click on the File Explorer.
    • Select This PC.
    • Right-click on your D drive, then click on Format.
    • Follow the on-screen process to finish formatting the partition.

Let us know how it goes so that we can further assist you.

    Hi Harold,

The unknown drive could be a system recovery drive or some other drive which you don't have access to it. You may follow these steps to check what kind of drive it is:

    • Click on Search bar.
    • Type diskmgmt.msc.
    • Check description of the ESP (FMany Unknown Files with Same Date on My D Drive :) drive. Also check whether the drive is recovery drive or System Drive.

    D: drive disappeared

Number 2 is my graphic card. Only no 1 is the drive.

I did as you suggested: unplugged the two cables, booted the PC, restarted, turned off, re-attached the two cables and booted again. And we're back to square 1.

Note: whilst I had the drive disconnected, the 'unknown unit' did not appear on the list of drives.
