Windows 10: Many Windows 10 Apps Do Not Exist

Recently I've been having various issues with my computer, all stemming from the fact that many of the core apps are simply missing. The MS Store, for instance, closes instantly upon opening and according to powershell does not exist. This also applies to Media Player and various other apps.


I've tried reinstalling all windows apps using the usual command:

Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Foreach {Add-AppxPackage -DisableDevelopmentMode -Register “$$_.InstallLocation\AppXManifest.xml”}

Upon doing this powershell spits out many of the same errors, then installs at least some of the apps successfully.

I've tried repairing files with both SFC and DISM, both of which always say they found and repaired corrupted files.


I've also tried reinstalling windows using the media creation tool, although I did keep my files and preferences intact.


Note that this problem only began to occur after migrating Windows 10 to a new SSD. All of the affected apps are stored on my C: drive.

Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

• Open a new Explorer window.
• Click View in the ribbon.
• Click Options.
• Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
• Click OK

Windows 10 Tweaks

As you may already know, Windows 10 (as well as Windows 8) allow you to log in with a valid Microsoft account, instead of creating a local account that only works on your machine. However, you may prefer to keep a local account for privacy reasons. If you do, though, some Windows 10 features—like Cortana—may not work. Despite the default behavior, the Windows 10 Store is not one of them. You can still log in to your Microsoft account for just the Store without switching to a full Microsoft account. The process, however, is not terribly obvious. To do so, follow these steps:

• Launch the Store from your Start menu.
• Click the user icon next to the search box.
• Click “Sign-in” from the menu that appears.
• Choose “Microsoft account” and log in like normal.
• When the “Make it yours” box appears do not enter your password. Instead, click “Sign in to just this app instead.”

Windows Store not updating existing apps

We may need to resolve the Windows Update error first, so that you can update the apps on the
Windows Store. Let's refer to this article. Here are the suggested steps to follow:

• Choose the version of your Windows (Windows 10).
• Select No under Step 2 (Run the Windows Update troubleshooter).
• Download the most recent KB. If you have done this step, click
  No to proceed to Step 4.
• Run the DISM command. Follow the steps that will be provided.
