Windows 10: Mapped drives not showing up under backup options anymore

I have mapped 2 drives from my house PC to my laptop. I have full access to the drives and they work just fine: However, when i go to settings, backup, and it asks to select a drive, it USED to see my mapped drives, and now it shows "no drives available" If i put in a usb stick, the backup settings will see that drive, but i dont want to use that.I would like to backup my files to a mapped drive from my laptop to my house PC. Please help me figure out why it USED to work and now it does not. Nothing has changed with the network, i am using zero tier vpn to tunnel to my house PC. Like i previo

I will certainly help with the issue you are facing with backup option.

To assist you better, kindly provide the information:

  How exactly are you trying to perform back up? Is it from the Backup and Restore (Windows 7) or File History?
  
• 
  Which drive have you selected to back up? Is it an external drive or a network drive or a local drive of the system?
  
• 
  When you say 'only allows me to do another backup with the same options', which options are you referring to?
  
• 
  Are you unable to select a different drive for a backup from the backup destination list?
  

If you are using a Backup and Restore (Windows 7) option then, I suggest you to follow the steps mentioned below:

  Type backup and restore in the search bar and press enter.

  Click on setup backup option.
  
• 
  Click on refresh button to check if the drives are visible in the
  backup destination list.
  
• 
  Choose the drive which you want to back up and click on
  next.
  

If you are trying to use file history I suggest you to un-plug it and restart your computer. Re-plug the external drive and check if the file history options are available.

Mapped Drives Issues

To clarify .... the issue is the Windows 10 OS. It is with Windows File Explorer. The Mapped drives used to appear in File Explorer's left panel list of drives and folders. Two days ago File explorer stopped show the mapped drives. so not they don;t appear in the list of Drives and folders.

I did, it has no effect. I also check the NAS devices they support SMB 2.0. Also I have several other computers on my home network they work fine with the mapped drives and They do not have SMB 1 turned on. So it is something that happened to the computer in question.

 

Problems with mapped drive

Well I got one step closer to getting the mapped drive working.

Instead of using Windows 10 File Explorer to map the Network Drive, I do it manually from a Command Prompt run as Administrator:

net use G: \\XP07\XP_Dev

After executing this command I can copy files to and from the mapped drive to the system disk. And while this is a huge step forward there are still other problems with the mapped drive.

Opening a jpg file in Paint by clicking it from File Explorer loads the picture just fine, but I can't save it. When Paint tries to save the file it can't find the mapped drive, it doesn't even show up when browsing for a place to save it.

There are a few links on the web discussing this very issues of not being able to browse a mapped drive from within a program. There is supposed to be a registry fix for this by adding EnableLinkedConnections and settings it's value to 1 but it didn't work.

So the next step after getting File Explorer working is to somehow get programs to see the mapped drive.
