It's surprising how many PCs still run Windows 7 given the free upgrades to Windows 10. It seems most previous Windows 8 PCs have been upgraded to Windows 10 but not those running Windows 7. Maybe the majority of those Windows 7 PCs are corporate PCs which are generally a long way behind the upgrade curve.

    :)

    Help on Dual Boot

    Hi,

I have a laptop which was running W7 & I recently upgraded to W10 & is working fine. I need to load a software which is compatible with XP version only so I need to install XP (with SP3) as a dual boot option. Upon checking, I was told that it is not possible
to dual boot W10 with W-XP. Can anyone help & share his/her views whether it could be achieved or not ???

    Regards

    Bratts

Veho vfs 002 slide scanner wont recognize as connected in Windows 10.

The Veho website states the device supports Windows XP, Vista & W7, there is no indication that W10 is supported, suggest re-install in Compatibility mode w/ Admin rights.

It's surprising to me just how many people are still using XP. Considering its no longer supported its a serious security risk.

Last I heard XP piracy was rife in China and thereabouts...also probably due to certain apps that have not been updated to run on later OS' - but I agree, unusually large percentage still running it.

Then surely its better to use those apps in VM.

I think it would be pretty tragic is Windows 10 wasn't increasing market share given that it comes with almost every new PC ! But even so Windows 7 has gained more than Windows 10.. amazing !

Yup, a VM will protect the host but the data within it will still be exposed (i.e. if it's on-line, which those stats are based on supposedly)

  11. I'm still waiting for the long promised "XP Armageddon" to arrive.
Based on the propaganda of the time, the Internet should have been destroyed on April 8, 2014 (a few minutes after MS dropped XP support).

There could also be a large number of Virtual XPs running on W7 PCs in businesses (XP Mode).

    Personally I have:
    • An XP VM for my old games (used regularly)
    • A triple boot machine with XP on it
    • Several XP VMs that I built for my TAFE courses

I upgraded my W7 Home Premium laptop and received W10 Home (which IMO is inferior).

Given that when I looked at PCs in stores they were all running W7 Home Premium, I suspect for the majority of retail machines, the free upgrade would have replaced a W7HP OS with an inferior W10H OS.

My desktops are still running W7.
