  1. Massive issue installing Windows 10

So I made a post earlier with having trouble installing Windows 10.

    Things have kinda escalated.

So I am right now running Ubuntu 20.10 as an alternative, but would love to have Windows.

So I made a bootable USB Drive using the MediaCreationTool. Now it works fine and all but the Windows installer does not, AT ALL, detect my SSD. (The installer tells me that there was no drive detected and to insert a drive with proper drivers).

Now at first I thought it was a problem with the installer, so I formatted the drive, got the installer again, and same story.

I tried a different USB Drive, same story.

Then I got more creative. First off I tried turning AHCI on, Nothing shows up.

I then went into the installer and launched cmd, I did diskpart and then listed the disks. Only the USB Drive shows up (I then changed back to Optaine to see if it fixes it, nothing).

Then I wondered if the drive is even GPT so I went into the linux terminal and checked. And it is GPT...

Weird thing is, again, I use Ubuntu now. Linux detects and works with the drive like nothing is wrong at all.

Another point to note, when windows installer asks me to browse for drivers, IT SHOWS THE FUCKING DRIVE THAT UBUNTU IS INSTALLED ON. THE 512GB DRIVE I AM TRYING TO INSTALL WINDOWS UNTO.

AND IT DOESN'T LET ME SELECT IT?!?!?!?!

What in the actual fuck is going on please help, I want to install Windows since there are some tools there that I need to use. If there are drivers that I need to place somewhere then please tell me, I can't find anything online about those mystery drivers that Windows installer wants from me.

Edit: Also, if there are any Linux tools that are able to format a mounted drive then please tell me what is it, maybe I can format the drive completely and go from there.

Edit2: I just remembered that Windows installer has a "Live environment" sort of thing that companies use to pre install programs for their workers. How do I enter it? Because if I will be there I will have access to the disk manager, and since I am not mounting the main SSD, but rather the USB Drive, I can format the SSD and maybe make it show up.

  2. New install Windows 10 (issue solved)

It's good that you're not experiencing any issues. Unfortunately many folks are, a quick Google search will show the same info im offering the OP.

    Heres a couple examples:

    Here

    Here

It's basically what I mentioned above, small issues here and there ,but nothing to end your day.. for the most part.

I know it's anecdotal, but for my experience 95% of the time it's perfectly fine. The issues I've run into wouldn't be enough for me to roll back , but they would be enough (had I not installed it yet) ,to avoid it for another couple weeks which is why I'm suggesting it to the OP

    • Microsoft Edge problems with the Fall Creators Update
