Windows 10: Matrox M9148 Windows 10 x64 WDDM driver Flashing Issue

I don't normally contribute on forums but I recently bought a second hand matrox graphics card M9148 and was instantly disappointed by the poor driver performance. I was experiencing flashing when opening any of the Windows settings and configuration windows. I could sort of work around the problem by Alt-Tabbing my way through the poor screen painting but stumbled upon a fix for it.

Anyway, the fix/workaround for me has been to disable Transparency effects. This can be done by doing the following:

right-click on the taskbar

select "Taskbar settings"

select "Colors" switching alt-tab commands a few times can help repaint the window if you don't see it change at first

Scroll down and find "Transparency Effects"

Switch them OFF.


It fixed the issue for me.

Matrox M9138-M9148 Massive flashing in SETTINGS menus

I have a test computer that recently updated to Win 10 Pro 2004 and immediately after my multi monitor displays started flashing in the SETTINGS menus to the point that they are unusable. I checked the Matrox site and I have the latest drivers they have
posted. I have paused other computers with this same card to avoid any problems with them until this is resolved by Microsoft or Matrox.

Computer is a Dell Optiples 3010 with updated firmware and BIOS.

Did a reset of Windows, no luck. Did a fresh install with the ISO, no luck. Exactly the same problem. Going to build up another machine and try it there.

It's a shame that MS and Matrox can't get together and fix this problem with the very popular Matrox 4 port DisplayPort card. I strongly suspect it's a combination of the Matrox driver and Windows 2004. All add on programs work as expected. The packaged
Windows programs/apps do not, as none of them display properly, if at all.

I've not been able to get a response from Matrox on the issue in several weeks now. Still the same driver on their download page. No comments about not working on 2004 either. The only thing that has changed on this test system was going for 1909 to 2004.

This is the 2nd time this has happened with video cards. Before it was the ATI dual port cards that were "depreciated" in a Windows update. That left thousands of users with one monitor on Monday morning when they arrived at work, with no warning. After
I changed to the Matrox cards, MS decided they screwed up and allowed the ATI driver to once again run. But I was spooked and stepped up to the 4 port DP on my systems thinking I gained a few years of use. Guess I thought wrong.
