I'm having Intel i5 12450H processor in my laptop. I want to reduce power consumption of my laptop when it is not requiring the full capacity of the H series processor. So, I tried reducing 'Max Processor State' setting in 'Control Panel' -> 'Hardware and Sound' -> 'Power Options' -> 'Change Plan Settings' -> 'Change advanced power settings' -> 'Processor Power Management'. This only reduced the max clock speed of Efficiency Cores 4 E-cores in my case while the max clock speed of the Performance Cores 4 P-cores did not reduce at all. This totally cripples the purpose of the

  2. Max Processor State in Power Management to reduce Laptop Heating

I have a brand new HP Omen with Windows 10 coupled with an Intel Core i5 9300H and 8GB RAM. It is heating when I play CPU intensive games and when I check for suggestions in the Microsoft Community, I got to know that reducing the Max Processor State in
the Advanced Power Options reduces the Heat caused by the laptops. I had just set mine to 97% (while plugged in) and 90% (while on battery) and the heating is comparatively lesser by at least 7°-10° Celsius.

However, it wasn't clear enough for me, wherein if I reduce the Max Processor state from the default 100%, will it affect the Life of my Laptop and/or its Components in the Long-Term?

Minimum processor state not working in Power Settings

Ahh, that's better. I thought you listed "PowerCfg-AllProperties" as a sub-directory and it would automatically generate a file of its own making. Done. Here are my current results:

Power Setting GUID: 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c (Minimum processor state)
    GUID Alias: PROCTHROTTLEMIN
    Minimum Possible Setting: 0x00000000
    Maximum Possible Setting: 0x00000064
    Possible Settings increment: 0x00000001
    Possible Settings units: %
Current AC Power Setting Index: 0x00000000
Current DC Power Setting Index: 0x00000005

The Current AC Power Setting Index does change when I adjust the Minimum processor state in Power Options.

Minimum processor state not working in Power Settings

I suggest you first check whether or not the changes you make in the user interface are carried through into the power plan by reviewing the results of this command:-
[Use a path of your own instead of my sample path. The quotes are only needed if your path contains a space or a special character but they do no harm even when they are not needed.]
    Code:
If you want to list power plan properties, always use the poorly documented -qh switch not just -q
    - qh includes hidden properties.
    - There appears to have been no logic used in deciding which properties are hidden and which are not. So omitting -qh might fail to reveal a property that you happen to be interested in.
    - In your current case, Minimum processor state would be listed anyway because it is not a hidden property.

My entry is this and your results will be in the same pattern [you can ignore my Current ... setting lines, they were set by the processor / computer maker]'Max Processor State' Setting in 'Control Panel -> Power Options' only affects the... :power Setting GUID: 893dee8e-2bef-41e0-89c6-b55d0929964c (Minimum processor state)

Current AC Power Setting Index: 0x00000005

    Best of luck,
