Windows 10: Maximum URL length in Start Menu / Tile / properties

I regularly add Edge shortcuts to the "C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs" folder, when they appear in All Apps I pin them to the start menu, however if the URL is too long the shortcut is in the folder but does not appear in All Apps, the shortcut URL works fine from desktop, if I truncate the URL of the shortcut then it appears in the All Apps as expected. Then character length of the URL is 1531 so it is not a browser issue. I have tried all the troubleshooters, DISM etc.Any ideas?

Pin length maximum to low

I've found a solution.

A Windows-update my changed the default policy about maximum PIN-Length.

It can be fixed by applying a defined rule inside the Local Group Policy Editor.

Step by Step:

1. Open the Local Group Policy Editor.

2. Go to Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\System\PIN Complexity

3. Change Maximum PIN Length to disabledThis solution worked in my case I hope it could help someone else as well.

I tried doing exactly what you said, but after I do the Open file location step, what happens is that a new File Explorer instance is launched which views the folder that contains the tile program. There is (generally speaking) no shortcut inside that folder--instead, that folder contains the real program.

It looks like the old Win 7 Start menu's Properties menu functionality seems to have totally disappeared, I am sad to report.

 

how do i reset the start menu in windows 10 to not show tiles?

A few days ago, my friends Win10 computer stopped showing his desktop and now only shows the tiles (he wants to see the default list of programs, not any tiles).

Clicking on the Windows key or "start menu" doesn't change anything. I stepped him through some online suggestions (including Settings/Start/Use-start-full-screen and making sure Settings/Table-mode was not engaged) but they don't work.

I've also compared his settings (Start/Use-start-full... and Table-mode) to my Win10 machine and they are the same.

Assistance/suggestions would be appreciated.
