  1. May Update - Computer Unbootable

Hello and thank for any help.

After an update I'm fairly sure restarted my Windows 10 machine on Monday May 18th, I logged in to find many drivers not working, no internet, etc. Tried to restart, but wouldn't restart and Startup Repair failed. I was thankfully able to do a System Restore and work the rest of the week without issue.

However, I woke up yesterday to the same exact situation, but this time WITHOUT a System Restore point to go back to despite explicitly creating one and allocating extra space to System Restore points. I'm really hoping I can repair the system find a log file or something vs. having to reset my entire machine and have to reinstall and configure dozens of apps...

I worked in Desktop Support / System Admin for 15 years previously, so am comfortable at a command line, but not sure exactly how to proceed at this time. None of the debugging startup options are successful, so just sitting here at a command line in Startup Repair...

    Thanks

    Doug

    :)

Windows 10 crashed after update and is now unbootable

The comments that were made were in addition those made dalchina so follow the steps that were outlined.
The comments that were made were only if you wanted to try additional troubleshooting steps.
They are command line steps as compared to windows steps.

For the registry backup via task scheduler a computer with windows 1703 displayed 9/26/2018; one with 1803 displayed 9/27/2018 and the one that was upgraded to 1809 displayed: 11/30/1999 (not yet run)

    None of these were scheduled.

There were no default settings modified after the upgrade to 1809:

Using Macrium the backup is an extra layer of protection.
Dalchina, what schedule modifications did you make for the computers?
If there is a computer that is not using a backup image what alternative schedule do you recommend?

I suggest you to create a backup of your data on an external drive even if the system crashes the data wouldn't be lost.

    May Update - Computer Unbootable

Windows Updated(16299.309).KB4088776 Restart is required to complete.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.

Thanks for the suggestions and for the time to respond May Update - Computer Unbootable :) Best regards.

And thanks for the tip of that program, I'll have it on my list.
